Try to hover over it and see what pops up next time it shows, or right click on it and click Properties as that might give you a clue.

it could be the printer manager, I would check your paperwork from the printer. I know my HP printer puts an icon down there and it is my printer manager.

Owbist, that's the problem, I can't hover over it and can't click on it. It's like a ghost, when you go to click or hover, it disappears.

Raven I feel sure it belongs to the printer, because I waited a while after the format before I installed it and it wasn't there.

It's likely an update manager. If you open msconfig, look on the startup tab for anything starting with the letters HPZ. These can be disabled without any repercussions, you can update the software at will directly from the HP website.

It did not work, but I took the time to thoroughly investigate each thing in start up and removed a lot of check marks. It is now gone. I should have done that in the first place, sorry about that.

pkponder is probably right, the other thing here is even if you disable it in msconfig these items can start back up after a reboot so you need to check that it doesn't and if it does it then becomes a matter of tracking what program it is and remove it from the start up folder or even in the add/remove programs list if it's there.

It did not return when I turned on my PC this morning. Hopefully I am rid of it.
