could I have win pac 3 download please..

When I sent computer to have it worked on, they did not reload winpac3. I have winpac1 only. Could someone give me the download site- and do I need to add winpac2 also, or will 3 have everything I need?

by winpac3 are you meaning xp service pack 3? xpsp3 can be downloaded from the windows update site if you do not have it on the pc when it scans the pc it will list it as a download for you to get. I would definitely install sp2(service pack 2) before putting on sp3, there have been complications on some computers when it is not done that way.

personally I would contact whoever worked on it and demand it be brought back up to date, those service packs are easily available for anyone that is a professional and should have been installed on the pc before it was returned to you, it is not something you should be expected to do if they did work on it, it should have been brought back up to date on all windows updates.

I would do the installs in safe mode with all antivirus programs disabled, there are some extensive instructions to follow to prepare the pc prior to install of any service pack.

ravencajun-I have 'compression client pack 1'- Is that the same?
I did try to download, I disabled antivirus program, and when I downloaded the ser pac2, it stopped and said I 'had a more updated program than ser pac 2. So I stopped. I don't see any service pack 2-3 in my add/delete programs...

Well its like this, I hybridize daylilys, but have a very small yard, but I have this friend of about 30 years that bought a house "right around the corner". He has 3 or 4 acres, well I got him interested in Daylilys, and soon I had a couple of beds over there in the front yard which is as big as my back yard. Well we used up all that space between my plants, and his plants and a bunch of Irises, so we went out back and put in a couple more beds. All was well for quite awhile, but my friend starts work early so I would go over there every morning after I pollinated here and continue my work there. He would often leave me a list of crosses he would like done and I would do them for him. We had a realy nice arrangement until his neighbors moved. The old neighbors used to just shake their heads at us plant nuts and not pay us much attnetion. Well a nice young couple purchased the home, and weren't really used to the way things are. Well I had been going over there for about a week armed with pollen, string tags, pen, pencil, clipboard and pollen but no one noticed me. Well one day about 11:00 I went over, and pollinated some flowers in the front yard, and had just moved to the back yard. Now it was about 85 degrees, I was wearing cut off jeans, and a pocket t shirt, no shoes, I have pollen all over me and I'm sweating to beat the band when I hear, "put your hands up, and lay down on the ground". Well I was more than surprised, but I managed to comply. The next thing I knew I was cuffed, searched, and asked just exactly what and the hell I was doing. Now the city I live in is small, and I know 75% of the police force by name, but not these two. I had left my wallet at home, so I had no ID. It took me almost 15 minutes to explain what I was doing while I was answering their questions along the way, fortuntely a Sargent showed up. I was instantly relieved, he took one look at me and told them to take the cuffs off, laughing the whole time. After the other two settled down he looks at me and says, "OK John I know this is going to be good what is going on", he never stopped laughing..... I met the new neighbors that evening.

I would never buy a program that told me I had nasties on the computer but they could remove them for a price. Plenty of good freeware out there: Spywareblaster Spybot Search & Destroy AdAware AVG anti spyware - NOT the same as their anti virus Ewido All except Spywareblaster need to be run occasionally. All need to be updated manually every few days. These are only as good as the last update a person installed. Out of date software is useless but it takes just a few minutes to keep these programs current. Then there are free online scans Trendmicro Symantec BitDefender and others

XP SP3 is just under 350 megs in size. If you are into working on computers even in a modest way you should download SP3 and burn it to a CD for any future needs, I keep 2 copies in case one gets damaged and blank CDs cost mere pennies. You should have installed it first then gone looking for updates because many of the SP2 updates would be included in the SP3 file. After installing SP3 you should expect a minimum of 127 updates - that was the number I had when working on an XP macine a little while back. If I remember correctly the option to update to IE8 was offered after the updates were done.

OK - I tried uploading directly from my camera to Photobucket - and you cannot do that. DANG! Here is an easy way to upload your pics to a computer (you never need to use the camera software - I really dislike Kodak especially, but if you are comfortable with it, that is ok) Plug your camera in to the computer, or place card into card reader. Go to MY COMPUTER and find the device. Double click on it and your images should pop up. You may see them as thumbnails, tiles, icons, or list - depending on how your computer is set...you can always change that. Click on the first image you want to copy - then hold down the shift key and select the last image you want to copy - this will select all of them in between also. Right click and select copy. Go to the Desktop of the computer. Right click on a blank area and mouse over NEW-> go over to FOLDER and click on that to create a new folder. You can rename it when you create it or just leave it named NEW FOLDER (it doesn't matter). Double click on the folder to open. Right click and select PASTE. Your photos will be zipping into this folder! You can upload to Photobucket like normal from there. This will NOT remove the pictures from your camera card. Delete your folder when you are done. DON'T forget your card if you have removed it from your camera!! You can create the desktop folder at any time - you also don't have to have it located on the desktop - but this would be easiest while you are traveling so you don't forget to delete. You should be able to practice this at home. If you can't shut down the Kodak program - just let it do it's thing - then try it after it has finished. Or try it at a library. The little thumb drives (USB drives) and camera memory cards are the same thing - just in a different package. An external hard drive is just like a thumb drive, just bigger. THumb drives are so easy to lose! They are just the handiest things - but they go missing for me all the time.... Buy some extra cards before you travel. Try them out before you go. Format them in your camera first!! They are cheap and you can NEVER EVER take too many pictures :) If this doesn't make sense at all -I can post screen shots later (probably tomorrow)

If you use IE, go to tools in the menu and choose Windows Update. That will take you to the MS Windows update site, which should apply all applicable updates. If you are way behind on updates, you may need to visit the site several times to get everything (some updates require reboots in between).

no compression client pack 1 is NOT the same that is something else.

first off lets make sure here, this is an xp computer right not vista?

If xp You need to go click on my computer then on the left click on view system information to bring up your info on your system there on the general tab it will tell you exactly what operating system and which service pack is installed on the system, what does it say?

if it is telling you that you have a more updated version than sp2 then you do not want to get sp2.

it could be that they re-installed a special slipstreamed version which has the sp2 and sp3 included and it may not show in your add remove programs but it will tell you what service pack is the most current in your system info.

I agree as I said originally if you go to the windows update site directly and select custom and let it scan your pc it will tell you if you need any critical updates and the service packs will be listed there if you need them.
