Sochi bathroom reveal: shower wallpaper + silestone shower pan
Comments (41)Hi Sochi and Kristin, gorgeous wallpaper projects! I am in correspondence with several Italian fiber glass wallpaper suppliers now and all of them have different waterproofing methods. The main issue I am finding is that the substrate needs to be white in color and smooth. Sochi mentioned the contractor used Schluter KERDI-BOARD but it is orange, so how did you eventually get it white? Krisitin what did your contractor do for substrate? What products were used to waterproof the wall before the application of the glue, wallpaper and sealants? My other concern is that the drywall or cement board (depending on what to use) has to sit on top of my shower pan so I fear it will absorb water is not properly waterproofed. Any guidelines and suggestions will be highly appreciated. Alex...See MoreShower pan advice please! Match bathroom floor or shower wall? See pic
Comments (8)Typically we match the bathroom floor to the shower floor. If the bathroom floor tile is too large and slippery, we'd cut it into smaller pieces. Do make sure that your shower floor tile is not slippery when wet. There are products that you can put on the tile afterward to add some grit if needed. Your shower most likely has a threshold and make sure that is well-delineated so you won't stub your toes. Keep in mind that natural stone requires more maintenance and is not as resilient as porcelain tile....See MoreDesign and support dilemma for 90 degrees shower glass
Comments (1)First off he is correct the door if it hinges on the wall must have blocking in the wall. The first issue aside from the door on option 1 is that return panel is way to large to be 3/8" glass (36 sq ft). I prefer the door on the long side like option 2. However there is no need to take the glass to the ceiling and no way would I secure that channel with anything other than mechanical fasteners....See MoreBathroom vanity and shower/tub design dilemma
Comments (9)I think a much smaller vanity would be really terrific! I have strange bathroom dimensions too, and there was this odd custom vanity that was meant to maximize storage. After much, much deliberation and agonizing about losing storage space, I finally decided to get rid of the old vanity and just get a smaller one -- and now I'm really glad I did. Mine is only 24" x 18" deep, and it's got three drawers so I can still fit major necessities in there. And we found a little floor-standing metal shelving unit at our local Homesense (like a Marshalls) which is absolutely perfect -- it provides extra storage space right next to the new vanity; it can be easily pulled away for quick cleaning and it helps lend an openness/airiness to the otherwise-cramped space. I think a 36" (or wider if it fits easily) x 18" vanity can look great in your space! Here's an example from Home Depot, although if you're getting yours custom made you could add drawers etc: If you go with a smaller vanity, then you could also put a "rolling storage bath shelf" like this one beside it, which would solve some of the problems you identified including being able to access for cleaning: :)...See Moreenigmaquandry
