64 bit Internet Explorer

We've an eMachine which came with a shortcut to a 64 bit Internet Explorer and another shortcut to just simple Internet Explorer. The 64 bit Internet Explorer doesn't seem much different from the other one except the 64 bit gadget fails more often. I don't have any more information because we tinker with it infrequently.

What is the 64 bit supposed to do? Why did my eMachine come with both? Why does the 64 often fail?

All the different Add-Ons are not completely compatible with the ie64 bit. Seems many 64bit programs have glitches.

So is sort of seems eMachines gave you both for 'user choice'. People buying 64 bit computer.. often will hope/wish/pray all things are 64 bit.... but, aint happened yet.

well those toolbars come with many many programs if you do not read carefully when doing installs or updates including java, flash, and IE, many of them, in fact there is a hall of shame at COU forum listing all of the programs that now include pre selected toolbars in their install, it has nothing to do with the browser you use to do the download or install it has to do with watching what is pre checked when doing your updates or program installs and un checking any for things like toolbars. I have had to clean tons of toolbars off of peoples computers too who had never heard of firefox, only had IE. I tell people to add a second browser because it is a very good idea to always have at least 2 on the pc because as we all know IE can and does fail then leaving them no way to access the internet. Whether they select firefox, chrome or opera, it does not matter but firefox is the best known so when asking for help they will find more people that are familiar with it. All browsers have their pluses and minuses none are perfect and I have never seen anyone here say any one browser is perfect. the point to make to people who have loaded up their pc with toolbars, why this is happening to them, is to watch what they are doing! Pay attention to every single line when doing any type of install. And do not let it add unwanted items, if they are not told how it happened it will happen again. nonnie_ga even if you do get your IE work properly it is a very good idea to get firefox as a second browser because if you do not have an alternative browser on the pc and IE fails then you have no way to get on the internet so to have at the least 2 browsers is preferred and you can have more than that, you could try Opera and the Google Chrome browser also but firefox is very easy to download set up and use, you can have it install all your IE favorites at the time you install it then you have them on both. You do not have to choose to set it as default you can leave your IE as default, simply click on the firefox icon when you need to use it. You can actually have both IE and firefox running at the same time also. Try Firefox should you need help with it just ask, I love firefox and use it daily and have a lot of very helpful add ons.

It means that the version of Internet Explorer you are using will work with both 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems. Have you tried Moxzilla Firefox? I prefer it over explorer.

When installing Norton as a Comcast customer, the download is from Norton. I was a Norton Customer before becoming a Comcast customer and other than a bit of brand signage, the Norton Suite doesn't appear to have different versions. There's no need for any third party uninstaller program - if you look on your program menu under Norton Security Suite, one of the choices is Norton Uninstall. I can tell you from my own experience that that utility works very comprehensively. I once had a corrupted file that required an uninstall - reinstall that wasn't working for me, and Norton Tech Support used that tool on a remote connection. OP, I'm glad everything is working for you again.

Zep no question here, but it relates to this subject. I have W 7 and I think mine has both 32 and 64 bit. When I had tech help with my printer she had a problem getting on my PC. My IE 64 wouldn't do it, she tried FF and it did not work. Then she told me to go to start/search for Internet Explore, she said I should have 3. I had IE 64, reg IE and IE (no add-ons). She got it to work with the reg IE. Later I tried to find out if it was 32 but I couldn't.

She downloaded the same HP fix I had, but it wouldn't work for me. She stayed on reg IE and it worked for her.
