webpages won't open from Windows Mail

I have hundreds of sub-contractors listed in my Windows Mail along with their web address. I used to be able to just click on someone's web address from within Mail and it would automatically open up the webpage or website.

I don't know how long it's been going on but lately I notice when I try to do the above, I get a message reading "application not found".

I downloaded Chrome approx. 2-3 weeks ago, and don't know if that is the problem or even why it would be. I even closed Chrome and opened IE, then tried to open a website from within Mail, and got the same message. There's nothing else new that I added to my computer (Vista).

Anyone have ideas as to why this is suddenly not working?

Hi ravencajun, Thanks for the information, I put this in my favorites so that I can go back and research those later. I hope you don't mind but I do have another question about those type of programs. I have never used Quick Time or itunes, they were on my computer when I had it built. My question is what are the purpose of these programs and what are they used for? Please give me an example. I was use to Media Player because of my music and I learned how to put some music into the Media Player. Excel/Word won't open

That is interesting that MS has now started giving away Word and Excel, so far I have heard no complaints over the advertising that is supposed to be there either. I might suggest that those with Office 2010 starter go to Microsoft and download the free Powerpoint Viewer so they can enjoy some excellent Powerpoint shows that pass around in emails.

An idle thought here, did you by chance recently do a maintenace which included running a registry cleaner utility? I recently tested one on my Vista system and following its use I received the same Windows response, albeit on a different action. I was required to do a System Restore to alleviate my concern. As a side note, I am slightly concerned to your comment of "I have lots of pictures in MY PICTURES". As one who has had a couple of negative experiences in data loss; personal pictures and at-work text (God bless off-site storage), I hope you have all that is precious to you stored on an alternative storage source. We as users are only one virus or one HD crash away from total loss of on-board data. DA

What was the suffix on the original email you could not open? Was it .pps - .ppt - or was there an additional x on the end of either suffix? You cannot simply change a suffix, all that does is ruin the file entirely. If you have MS Office you do not need Open Office. However if it is an older version (97, 2000 or 2003) and you receive a PowerPoint 2007 presentation it may not work. You can download the stand alone player from Microsoft from the link below. Take a look here and see if that cures your problem. PowerPoint presentations are among the best emails you can get in my opinion. The program was and still is basically a program for the office environment but many have found it an excellent way to show off family or scenery photos. Thanks Raven, but it didn't work. I even tried uninstalling Chrome, then rebooting. It still happens. Hummmm.

which browser did you select to use as your default choice?

I had to select IE because Google Chrome wasn't an option to select in the Default Programs.

I used instructions from another site and got it to work. I re-installed Chrome (not as my default), and it's working fine.

I checked back in the default programs to see if Chrome appeared after the re-install and it is there to select, though I'll just keep it at IE for now, though I use Chrome when I'm searching.

Thanks for your help. I appears this is a common problem from what I read.
