My CD tray won't open

Hi everybody! I need some help with something that is probably pretty simple.. I cannot get my CD tray to open and when I push the button it will "run" after a second or two, acting like I put a new disc in..?? Also, my computer has been giving me an error message when I try to open any pics from my email... saying "application is not correct and that re-installing should fix the problem" ? I have Windows XP on a Dell computer which is about 4 years old. Can anybody tell me what to do?

If you look at your cd drive you will see a small hole under the drawer. Straighten out a paper clip or similar object and poke it through the hole. This will release the drawer.

Thanks for the tips folks! Ok, so it's too cold, and it's not getting enough light. I suppose I could supplement the southerly light with a flurescent, at least until spring is REALLY here... What temp would be ideal? Will these buds open in time, or will they be lost? Also, an ornamental rock is really in the way of things? Could you explain? It just sits on top of the soil and takes up less than 5% of the soil surface area....I see what you're saying about the method of judging dryness, but must I remove it altogether? Thanks again, dp

I might look in Device Manager for signs of errors ...and maybe open the case up too - unplug the cables and reconnect them. Could be one of the wires has come loose. If you're lucky. While the case is open prehaps clean out some of the dust and maybe check most other easily reached plug in connections too.

Do Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up your Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, and click once or twice on the CPU tab at the top of the listings: this will show what process is chewing up the most resources (which will probably be the culprit). Also, look at the CPU Usage line at the bottom of Task Manager and see what the % Usage is. Then report back here on what you found out.

Try from the software point-of-view --- Using Windows Explorer - select My Computer - this will show the computer drives - right click the problem drive - then click Eject.

I have the same prob since the Dell man was here and had it all apart.

I tried the paperclip trick the other day (at Bob's suggestion). With a few attempts and holding my mouth just right, I got it open several times.

Now this evening even that does not work. I just tried fruit's suggestion above. It opens one of the drives, but not the problem one.
I tried pushing the button, and then pressing in a bit on the drive while it is attempting to open. Sometimes it opens, and sometimes not, but will open then with no problem the next time I push the button. Just keep fiddling with it, and I think you will get the knack of it.

Do you feel comfortable with taking the side off of it? I'm going to take the side off of mine now and see what that does.
