I'm just curious--why would your husband 'veto' induction?
(especially since you do most of the cooking and cleaning, and induction is so easy to cook on and to keep clean....)

We were shown an example of induction in the local Sears store which turned out to be a fiesco. So hubby is kind of turned off from induction. I am trying slowly turning the opinion back in the posiitve side of the induction cooking. Also helping is the good deals on the utensils needed for the induction cooking.

If anything spill on the stovetop, make sure HE does the cleaning.

Cooking on induction absolutely rocks. Immediate response, consistant temps--it's wonderful. I hate to clean, but cleaning up an induction cooktop rocks just as much as cooking on one. Nothing ever burns onto the cooktop, ever. Make a huge mess. Swipe with a soapy rag, swipe again with a clean, dry rag, shiney and clean. Done. Haul hubby out to a different demo. If you can find a Miele or Wolf showroom, go to one of those. Then he can be impressed with the performance but shocked at the price point, and you can "settle" for something much less expensive that works well but with fewer bells and whistles, and he'll be impressed with your research and happy to come in on budget. And you can be a happy cook with a spotless range and very little effort. ;-p

PS. I bought this set of cookware from Walmart, and it works wonderfully. My original thought was to get this inexpensive set and then replace it when I could afford it. After using it, I doubt that I'll ever replace it, as it's much nicer than I expected. It is really quite heavy. "Clad" means that the triple ply goes right up the sides--this is what you want. I also don't usually like 'sets' of cookware, as there always seems to be some items that are useless. Not so with this one. If you don't need a 10 piece set, there's an 8 piece set for only $149. I wanted the 12 quart pot for stock. For the price, it really just can't be beat.

I was originally interested in a double oven electric range also, until I really looked at them and realized I didn't like the placement of the ovens or their sizes. I went with a Kenmore smooth top convection range with a large oven and a GE convection microwave; the GE can be a regular oven, a microwave, or both--the fastbake feature is great for roasts. They have worked great for me and were under 2000 for both I believe. I looked wistfully at induction, but decided not to spend the money for it. Sounds great though.

cj, which induction range do you use. thanks for all the great ideas and the link for the cookware; i am waiting for the sale too to pick some beauties; so thanks for the suggestion.

Aynb, I do not use a range. I chose the Miele 36" induction cooktop and rearranged my budget allocations to be able to get it. :-) From all accounts, though, the induction ranges work well, and I've seen no complaints about them here. By all accounts that I've seen, people who like induction have liked them pretty much across all brands. Best of luck to you in making your choices!
