Sconces or flushmount light in powder room?

In the process of picking out lighting for my new build. I like the look of sconces for the powder room, but wondering if I should just get a flushmount instead? What do you think? Do you think there is a benefit of one over the other in a half bath?

flushmount as in a ceiling mount? I prefer side lighting that you get from sconces. Side lighting is more flattering. And they're prettier :)

I prefer sconce lighting in a powder room. Because it's such a small room, it's a good opportunity to use some unique/funky/different fixtures.

THe only benefit I can think of is the light can be more flattering coming softly from the sides (note: low watt bulbs) instead of overhead.

Yes, that should be enough. 120 watts is more than enough. Guests won't be shaving or putting on make-up (except maybe lipstick). I'd even put them on dimmers. Mood is more important than brilliance in a powder room.

Hi Karen, The light bulbs you chose will greatly affect the lighting in your powder room. I would suggest clear 60W 2700K LED bulbs. Those should give you the proper lighting you need without being too bright.

Narrow powder room lighting

While I don't know the exact dimensions of the narrow powder rooms above neither looks "off" or crowded by the sconces. On the other hand, try to imagine an over-the-mirror fixture in either setting : [ My vote is still for the sconces. One thing I would add is look how the whole wall behind the mirror is the same tile or wallpaper. This gives the tiny rooms a nice continuity.

Yes that will work. I would mount the 18-24 inches up. Other option is to do a mirror the width of the wall and mirror mount the sconces. The third option would be to drop a pendant down over the sink area and put recessed cans over toilet area.

Thank you for verifying that for me.. I had thought all along I should do scpnces, for looks as well as function, but my mother kept putting doubt in my head.. My DH could care less either way-

We updated our Powder Room a couple years ago. Elected to go with mini pendants. Just another idea. We're happy with ours.

I'm partial to the light over the mirror rather than sconces.
