Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Placement of Sconces in Long, Narrow Powder Room

I'm in the process of building at the coast. We have a long and narrow powder room (36"x7'6") with a pocket door. The ceiling is 9'. We will have a white, semi-custom shaker style vanity with polished nickel accessories. In addition to sconces, we will have a 'fan-can' centered in the room for bright light and fan.

I envisioned a wide, tall mirror with a simple frame and mounting a sconce on the side walls. My thinking is the larger mirror would make the room look larger? Would sconce on the side walls work? If so, how high should sconces be from countertop? Would it be better to have a sconce above a mirror? Open to suggestions before electrical work begins.

Included is the floor plan, a picture of a sconce I like to mount on side walls as well as an 'inspiration' photo. Thx for your advice/expertise.

Note: Electrician said he could put a 'pancake' electrical box in the wall since we have a pocket door there. Was going to ask builder to move the pocket door to the other side until I met w/electrician.

Yes that will work. I would mount the 18-24 inches up.

Other option is to do a mirror the width of the wall and mirror mount the sconces.

The third option would be to drop a pendant down over the sink area and put recessed cans over toilet area.

I don't have pretty towels yet, I was waiting to buy a new set until I saw how this turned out. The curly willow I just stuck in there but I will consider other items. I'm not a fan of silk flowers where they can be seen up cloee so perhaps dried. One thing I am ruling out based on practicality is the ring being not over the countertop. The room used to have a bath towel bar mounted over there in the right and there were always drips of water where people reached for the towel. I am looking for a nice large colorful piece if art for that wall the room is long and narrow so it needs something interesting there. If I put the towel on the left it will also disguise the electric outlet there. A warm red towel set is a great idea! Thanks for the feedback!

While I don't know the exact dimensions of the narrow powder rooms above neither looks "off" or crowded by the sconces. On the other hand, try to imagine an over-the-mirror fixture in either setting : [ My vote is still for the sconces. One thing I would add is look how the whole wall behind the mirror is the same tile or wallpaper. This gives the tiny rooms a nice continuity.

Hello! Just an alternative thought. Rather than scones on the wall, use a wider mirror and hang pendants from the ceiling instead...if you have that option. A larger mirror will help the space feel larger and pendants hanging in front of the edges of the mirror will throw more light. Have you tried the orange settee and the two chairs facing each other, perpendicular to the fireplace? With the pouf or the round table in the middle? Or the small round table between the chairs? That makes a cozy destination at the end, worth walking through the living room.

One question-if mounted on the walls to the side, should they be mounted 18 to 24 inches from the wallplate/mount or from the bottom of the long part of the pendant?
