TV show on my street

They are filming the outside of a house on my street for the show Trading Spaces, which I think is on HGTV. The crew is here now. I don't recognize the woman who is the host, but she seems to be having a hard time saying "Hi and welcome to Trading Spaces." I took a couple pictures. She's the one with the short dark hair.

My neighbors are not trading spaces with anyone, they are just doing outside shots of the house.

Nice that they raked up all the leaves off the lawn. Send them to my house!

    Pam, That is so cool!

I think its a TLC show and it used to have Paige Davis as host...very cute short dark hair.

I recall an episode where one of the designers stapled silk flowers to the ENTIRE bathroom-floor to ceiling-totally gross!! That same designer glued hay to a wall in another house! Ahhh no thank you!!

See is you can get wind of when it will air and I will deff check it out!!

    Cheers!

Oh yeah, maybe it is Paige Davis. I remember her now. I feel like a dork standing there and staring. I wish I had a dog to casually walk by. If I hear anything about the date, I'll let you know.

Parking Wars - funniest new show on TV....

Tom- I think I'll have to tune in next week. As a former Philly resident I'd love to see those PPA ticket writers take on the double and triple parked cars in South Philly. Or those people who think it's perfectly fine to park in the middle of the street (at least they're not double parked). And since it's winter do you think they'll go after all those drivers who shovel the snow from their cars, and then put out lawn cars in the street to 'save' their space until they get back home. I remember a few years ago one guy actually shot his neighbor because the neighbor took his parking spot. Ah - those were the good old days, parking on the streets in Philadelphia. I used to live in NE Philly too. Our apartment was on Strahle Street and I worked at the Northeast Regional Library on Cottman. Now that I'm in the suburbs I have my own driveway. Happy parking to you!

Good job Karen! I tried to search for the very first segment, but it must be bumped off the site now. So this is only the story of Gomer and Margie, which have had quite the adventures of their own.

I didn't know they were still doing this show. That's Paige - she's so cute. She's a dancer - hence the long legs!

This is one of the shows that hooked me onto cable TV. Susie, that designer was Hildi Santo-Tomas. What a character. The show kicked off the careers of Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder, that spaz Ty Pennington, and that hottie, Carter Oosterhouse.

I remember that show too, Ashley loved it. I swore I'd never let a single one of those people in my house, ever.

I remember one where they covered the kitchen in wine labels, although the owners were staunch non-drinking pillars of their church and the neighbors who had traded brought them a steamer and gave it to them as a gift, for some reason I just thought that was inordinately funny, LOL

Pam, if you can walk by and manage to get yourself on camera, then I'd watch it!!

Too late to walk by. They left at 5 on the dot. My neighbor said Paige came in and had lunch with her in the kitchen and was very nice.

All the men on the crew were dressed very casually and all the women had on tight pants and boots with high heels. I don't know how they stood around in them all day.

I remember one where they covered the walls with 45 rpm records and another where they kind of glued straw on the wall. Doug was the mean decorator. Guess they are resurrecting the show.

I thought that show was long gone. That's cool to have a show on your street. I often thought that I would not participate in "Trading Spaces" with any of my neighbors partnering with some of those outrageous designers.

We do have a reality show audition going on close by--at a nudist resort. It's called Nak'd Truth, it will feature the adventures of seven young adults who agree to spend a month in the buff at the resort. I won't be walking by.

LOL, Cathy!! Heck, I'd be walking by every day cuz ya never know what ya might see! LOL

Yeah, I thought Trading Spaces was cool at first, but then they started doing really bizarre "designs" and I lost interest.

My son thought Paige Davis was a hottie, tho!

Let us know when/where to catch the show!

If I can find out about a date, I'll let you know. I hope the show improves and does not go back to "how badly can I mess up your house."

Amy and I watch every week....then talked about it for days!!

I recall the wine labels and the records on the wall....I actually thought the records were kinda cool.

There was a show were 2 young guys swapped and the designers did one room in all black and the other in all white and I do mean everything!! It was beyond horrible and the one poor guy had a major panic/anxiety attack over it full on crying and I just felt so bad for him...he signed up for a cool makeover and felt dupped-it was crazy!

Doug Wilson has taped his show Moving Up here in the Philly area but that was some time ago.
Some of his ideas were cool but he was just so snarky.

LOVED Vern and his designs...he did a room to match the family's tetras....very cool!!

Ahhh yes Hildi...such a beautiful woman with almost no taste...yep it was Hildi who did the bathroom full of flowers and the wall of hay!!

Now I am excited to see the new show!!

    Cheers!

That's definitely Paige Davis. Now I remember Hildi....pretty redhead that came across as a little ditzy at times. I liked the older slightly tubby guy too - can't remember his name. Most of the time I liked the show.

    Teresa

No, Hildi had straight dark hair. Ditzy one is Paige, the host. tubby older guy - Frank, I believe.

One of the designers had curly red hair. She was one of the more sane ones. Didn't they have to do it on a ridiculously low budget?

Yes, Frank, he did everything kind of cutesy. Hildi and Doug competed to see who could be most evil.

Laurie! Laurie Something-Smith I think. DW always said she's the one she'd want in her house.

The red head was Laurie. She always had the perfect colors on to go with her red hair. A nice lady. Hildi was like Natasha on Rocky & Bullwinkle, dark, cold and evil! I think she married a rich Frenchman and moved to Paris.

Yes, they did it all on a thousand dollars. Then remodeling shows were all over the tube and competed with each other to give homeowners thousands of dollars worth of free stuff.

Candice Olson's Divine Design comes to mind - each kitchen she's done looks like a hundred grand.

I remember Frank...he was charming and did a lot of freehand painting however I recall a lot of chicken/rooster type of things.

I did a Wiki search and they listed all the cast over the years but I found nothing about a new season...prob won't air until spring.
There was a carpenter named Faber who was hot hot hot!!
He can help me hang my shelves anytime!!!

What I would LOVE to see is a recap of all the shows and see how the homes are today...I am sure the hay was off the walls as soon as the truck pulled away!!

    Cheers!

Susie, that would be fun to see. I'm sure homeowners took it all down ASAP. I do remember one show where Doug totally destroyed some woman's family room that had a pretty brick fireplace. They showed a follow up where she had hired another decorator to come in to redecorate. Doug had made it all black and evil and the hired decorator made it much better.

I remember the carpenter named Amy Wynn Pastor because she was from Philadelphia.

Frank Bilec. Loved his personality to death, but I would not have his designs in my home. Although, he was a great artist.

ded, not only did she hate is so much she cried (she'd also left a note not to touch the fire place), he was in violation of codes... the covering came off immediately for both reasons. They have shown what some houses were like once or twice, but not any time recently. I hated that Doug seemed to do his best to step on people's toes and nerves, by going out of his way to do exactly what people didn't want done. He's way too obnoxious!!!

Can't believe we both remember that episode. I remember note, too. Yeah, he built a wood frame around the fireplace -- flammable, I'm sure.

I'm sure he must have been the one that wanted to paint a newly installed hardwood floor in black and white squares, although the owners specifically told their neighbors not to do anything to the new floor. The designer walked off in a huff and told them to just do it themselves, then. thankfully, they were strong enough to stand up to him. Of course, if you have to live next door to the people, you don't want to alienate them forever.

that was about the time I told Ashley I'd prefer to have all my fingernails pulled out and a root canal without anesthesia than ever watch that show again.

    Annie

Well, that's pretty picture, Annie. LOL.

Yeah, it started off being fun and creative and deteriorated into nastiness. We'll see what happens this time.

Some (many) of the episodes made me cringe. But then, why watch the show if all they're going to do is paint the room a nice neutral color and furnish it "traditional." Nothing wrong with that, but it wouldn't make for much of a show.
