If you can prep the subfloor to perfection and follow the manufacturers installation instructions perfectly, then you may be able to successfully install the flooring. If your existing flooring is very secure then it can be installed over. The swiping you are talking about is to coat the existing embossed surface using a cement based patching compound or embossing leveler. After that it needs to be scraped down smooth or sanded smooth. Re-apply patch as needed ion any spots missed. If you run your hand over the floor it needs to be perfectly smooth. Surface preparation is paramount to a good job and it needs to be as smooth as a sheet of glass or it may telegrpah any floor imperfection and debond in extreme cases on height intolerance or gouges or high spots. That said, proper resilient isntallation can not be taught on an internet forum. Installation craftsmen spend many years time and money perfecting their craft, learning, and some take certification courses to be Forbo Certified Master Mechanics, and in those, they learn the ins an out and complexities. Also site awareness is an issue. If something comes up on the job they know by experience how to handle it. It simply is not possible to list every situational varable to consider.

Mike, since no one replied to your question I assume you found your answer elsewhere. In case you check back, I'd be interested to hear what you eventually learned. I applied two coats of finish to our marmoleum floor 3 years ago. I'd like to apply another coat now, but only if it doesn't involve stripping off the original layers first. The finish I used was by Armstrong and was an acrylic product (I believe) that went on milky and quickly dried to clear. I applied it with a pad. The marmo still looks fine after 3 years of wear, but I see some surface scraches that I am sure would disappear with another coat of finish.

The cleaners were sent to do our floors by the Forbo rep. I do not think they were at fault. The one most at fault, IMHO, was the dealer. He seemed nice, but I ended up being sold the wrong materials for the job he knew we were doing. He is supposed to be knowledgeable about what he sells. If not, then Forbo should not have him selling their product. The Forbo rep from corporate hired the cleaning crew while trying to be helpful about the scratching. He is also a very nice person, but he sent an email today saying I should go see what I can get from the dealer and get back to him. I told him that he has much more clout with an authorized dealer than I do. I also think that I have been inconvenienced enough about all this and they should work out amongst themselves how to fully compensate me with either a new installed floor, or the money to cover materials, installation and removal of the damaged floor. It cost over $4k for materials and installation (approx 50/50), so it is not like I went cheap on getting this floor. It was our biggest splurge. All I know is it is unfortunate for everyone how this all went, but worst for my family because we have to live with all this added stress and complications. We can't move our furniture back in until the floor is replaced. My dh is livid and I am heartbroken. I wanted the Marm floors and convinced him they were worth it. We don't have a back up plan and are so fried from the reno, we do not want to pick out anything else or have to handle any more problems. Today we found out that the propane company our gc recommended dropped the ball completely and did not start the process to get a permit for our stove's propane line, which takes about a month. I had no clue about needing a separate permit and inspection by the fire marshal. My gc assumed they would take care of it all as they did for him in his own house. Not only did they not do it, but they don't answer their phone most days (tried twice last week and was only allowed to leave a vm once as the other time it said they were not taking calls). After over a half hour of automated hold music today, the lady told me they never get permits and my plumber was supposed to, which is entirely wrong information. I read the paperwork from Dec when they came to our house to say where to run the line, and it has a line spelling how much they are charging for obtaining a permit for us. I had gotten this receipt from the guy who came over and he said they "take care of everything" and to call when we are ready for hook up, which I tried to do last week. I did not bother going over details at the time because he came on our first day of demo and first day we were living in our bsmt (total chaos). I was glad he said they do everything, agreed on the price and was instructed to just call for installation. We fired their butts today and someone else is starting the process for us and will have our business. We now will be without a stove for yet another month. The counter guy is mia, so my island still does not have the work areas done. Luckily, he has not been paid yet, so I know he will return, lol. The dw is installed but not mounted yet. I was allowed to use it though, so that was a victory today ;)

Yes, great for laundry, I'd say---they caution against using it in very wet places, but our laundry area is no more or less wet than our kitchen. The Click is tongue and groove, and I was amazed that the seams between individual tiles basically disappeared once it was clicked in. In areas that might get wet, you can also fill the expansion edge with silicone caulk, apparently. The Click also has a wood and then cork underlay attached to it, so it's really pretty solid stuff. We read varying recommendations on whether to use a moisture barrier under it with wood subfloors (you must for concrete subfloor) but decided to go with one in part because our subfloor has lots of tiny gaps between boards and the kitchen isn't heated, so that should help keep the floor nice and warm. @rhome410, I think it's a similar palette of colors for the Click II, just different shades...but they also now have tiles in the sheet-style Marmoleum that come in dozens of colors! We didn't go that route because of the installation costs, but I was blown away by the number of colors to choose from. I also really love the Eternity and Barbados (creamy yellow) combination that several GWers have done, and would have done that in a heartbeat since I think it's warmer than the combo we ended up with, but my enthusiasm wasn't shared until after the floor was done and the boy says "oh, huh, maybe the cream would have looked pretty good after all..." :) (The Silver Shadow looks white in these photos, but is actually a blueish silver---I'm still worried that the whole kitchen will read a cold gray-blue once the gray cabinets are in, so fingers crossed---we're also adding lots of natural wood at the end, so that will hopefully combat the cold effect too.) Also hard to tell from the photos, but the color of the old door is what all the trim, the ceiling, and half of the cabinets will be---creamy almost yellowish color (BM Acadia White). So hoping for no clashing with the floor!
