How to send email - from Firefox

Okay - that title wasn't going to be accurate - but here goes. I got Firefox 3 two days ago and I'm loving it. It is so much faster than browsing through my AOL. But I'm stumped about 2 things:

- when I search on craigslist and see an item for sale and I want to reply to the anonymous sender, I don't know how to send that email. When I browsed through AOL, I just hit craigslist's link "reply to: #######" and it would send an email to the poster. But when I hit reply and I'm on my Firefox browswer, nothing happens. I have AOL opened up within my Firefox - but it isn't sending mail. How do I send mail (with my AOL email account). Is that possible in Firefox?

- my other question is about the tabs bar. I love it - but it is only there some of the time and I don't know how to keep the sites open in tabs and still go on to open another webpage. Sometimes it keeps the former ones there as tabs and sometimes I can't find them.

you have to set up what email you want it to use for your default email. (in Win XP SP2) go to Add Remove Programs in Control Panel, and then Set Program Access and Defaults, select Custom and set what you want.

You can always change this setting by going into "Tools" > "Options" (or "Firefox" > "Preferences," for Mac users) selecting "Applications" and going to the "mailto" option. There's a drop down next to the option that lets you change your default.

for your tabs you can set your preferences go to tools, options, tabs in there you can select how you want them to be.
I have mine set to always be there even if I have not opened any yet I have a tab waiting. I also use colorful tabs which I really like it helps me keep track easier.
any time you are on a webpage open in one tab and you find a link while there and you want that link to open in a new tab just either click on it with your center mouse wheel or right click on it and choose open in new tab, or you can drag the link right up to the tab bar and it will open it in a new tab.

Thanks Raven. Setting up the email helped - so easy and works great.

I'm having more trouble with the tabs. I went to tools, options and tabs - but no matter what I choose, I can't get the tabs to stay there. I think I'm not quite clear on using them. I noticed that if I have a webpage open, and I click a link within that webpage, then it opens up the newly linked webpage - and retains the original webpage in a tab. At least I think that's what's happening - am I right?

But what I was also hoping to do is if I'm on one webpage - say computer forum - and I don't want to close it - but then I want to go to my AOL mailbox - if I click on my AOl mailbox (or any other bookmarked page) - that new page opens - but I get disconnected from the other page I had opened. Is there a way to keep the former page open as well - until I close it - and have it display as a tab? I'm talking about opening up separate websites - not going from within one page and clicking a link to another. When I was using my AOL browser (which I gather is similar to IE), if I had a page opened - and then opened another - they would both be open. I'm assuming that isn't how firefox is set up by default. In which case, is there a way I can set it up like that?

I did do the color tabs (I think I was looking on a link you provided in another thread for some cool add-ons and things for firefox). It's the only plugin or add-on that I got from the beginning bc. I knew I'd like that.

Karen... I hope your weather has been warmer than mine these days..It's 48 today and just miserable out. We can't even keep our windows open yet and stay warm. I would wrap the roots up in towel paper and then news paper around the whole plant..If you leave some soil on the root, basically just pull it carefully from the pot, I think it will do much better. If you rinse all the soil off and just send the roots, then that is bare root.. I usually use a small box and then surround the plant in the center with lots of newspaper so it doesn't get crushed in the mail..Hope that helps..Glad to receive such a beauty. I have three accounts with my ISP. I think they don't allow communication among different accounts that all use their server. I don't understand why they won't let me see my messages on the two list I participate in. I can see in my Out box that these messages have gone out, but I can't see how they appear on the lists. If no one on the list directly refers to my entry I can't feel certain that the topic/response is being read by other list members. I have read somewhere that my ISP says this policy prevents duplication of information taking up my space. Huh???

Hi, goldy You should see the tab "Insert" second from the left at the top of the compose window. When you click on that you can choose either to attach a file (the left-most item under "Insert") or to insert a picture (further to the right). In each case when you click to add your pic -- as an attachment or picture -- you will have to browse to the file in question. If you insert the pic as an "attachment," the file will display right under the Subject line of your email, and your recipients will have to click on that file to open it when they get your email. If you insert your pic as a "Picture," your recipients will see it 'inline,' i.e. in the body of your email.

Buehl, The message you are seeing at the bottom of the email (PLEASE NOTE: The member responding to your post has chosen not to reveal his or her email address. Therefore, you cannot reply to this message via email) only means that you are not able to respond by clicking Reply within your email account (gmail, yahoo, outlook, hotmail, etc, etc). However, there is a way to send them a response ... go to their 'My Page' and respond to them from there. You do not have to respond via your email account. If they are set up to be able to receive email, you can respond to them from their My Page the same way they emailed you (they went to your My Page). NOTE however, if they do not have their account set up to receive emails as in your instructions above, you will not be able to reply to them from their My Page either. Finding a member 'My Page' ... http://members.gardenweb.com/members/search.cgi I believe it IS upper or lower case sensitive Using your instructions above, you also have the choice to have your email address revealed or not revealed in your settings on that same page (show my email address to: none). I have mine set up for 'none' and I see that you have your account set up this way as well which I think is smart . . . . I noticed something that made me change my settings ... When you email someone, if they have their email revealed, GW will automatically show you the person's email address. Just in case any spammers ever come trying to harvest email addresses, I thought it would be a good idea to change my settings. Because I use my real, work email address in GW, not a fake throwaway address. Click the first link below and you will see an example of how you can see that person's email address. Typically, when I send a private message to someone using GW, I include my email address in the body of the message, so they can respond without having to search me out using My Page. But I can still keep my email address private within my gardenweb settings. This way it makes it easier for the person I am messaging. I can choose to send/receive emails and neither of us has to unblock our email address. I have sent a suggestion asking GW to make this message that appears at the bottom of the email more clear, because it is very confusing how they have it worded. if you have the forum here open on one tab and you want anything else open in it's own tab and still leave the forum tab open just right click on the new item and choose open in new tab, then you have 2 tabs open one with the forum and one with the new item, you just click back and forth between the tabs to go from one to the other. If you have anything in your bookmarks folder just again right click on the selected item and select open in new tab. if you would want something to open in an entirely new window select open in new window instead.

AH! So that's how to do that. Again - so easy once I know how, and SO USEFUL. I never knew you could right click and have options for how it opened. I always just left clicked to open.

Thanks again for all your help in getting me to a point where I can really use my computer that way I want.
