I hate my new Bosch DW. It does NOT clean dishes
Comments (41)I assume that this problem was resolved since this is an old posting. However for those like myself who also had the same trouble and hated Bosch; I found a solution. The spray arms are poorly designed and the tiny holes clog over time. Unscrew the "nut" attaching each of the spray arms and use an ice pick or something small to unclog the holes along the arms. You will have to tilt the arm back and forth and shake out all the particles through the center connection hole in order to clean it out. Run water through it to be sure it is clear and shake it until there is no sound and the holes are clear. Re-attach to the machine and you will have sparkling dishes again. I cursed the darned dishwasher for weeks until I learned this!...See MoreBosch DW smells awful after every wash
Comments (74)Not sure the insulation - damp or otherwise - makes much sense to me. At least in the Bosch DWs and I would have to imagine, any well constructed DW, the insulation is not open to the DW itself and in fact is more open to the outside than to the inside of the DW cavity. So should the insulation be getting overheated or dampened somehow, I would imagine that smell would be just as profound when you're in front of the DW with the DW door shut as when the DW door is open because the source of the smell is on the outside of the DW. I did have the dreaded DW stink. We had put in our DW about a month before the renovation and at that time, the DW did not smell at all. After the renovation, put the DW back and it smelt like the dickens for a few days. I didn't really suspect the DW 'coz it hadn't smelt at all at its first install but still, the smell was something fierce and entirely unpalatable. Well, it took a few days but eventually our kitchen sink backed up - the drain had had a slow clog somewhere and it took a while to be detectable. We got our plumber out, he flushed the line to look for the clog and indeed he did mention that after a renovation, it is not uncommon for the drain to become slow because during a renovation, construction trash does tend to get into the drains and so usually the drain lines should be snaked to ensure they're clear. He did say that he didn't hit anything noticeable but bottom line, the drain cleared, the sink drains perfectly and the DW immediately lost its stench. In the two years since the renovation has been done, the DW has not smelled at all except on the couple of occasions when a dirty dish was left in it for several several days when I went out of town (don't usually leave dirty dishes in the DW when am to be out of town for a week or more but I've forgotten a couple of times). I do a DW load every 3 to 4 days and I don't get DW-odour in that interval. Based on my experience, whenever I read of smelly dishwashers, I suspect a slow drain with the sewer gases backing up. One probably doesn't smell it in the kitchen because the smell gets a chance to diffuse. Well, that's my $0.02...See Moredo you wash your dishes before you wash your dishes?
Comments (20)One of the reasons to *not* rinse/prewash dishes is if you use an enzyme detergent it needs the food particles to work better. It'll etch glass and stuff if it doesn't have the food particles. I can't explain it well, but it's easy research for a more thorough explanation. Most just recommend scraping the dishes (and really, who wouldn't?!) then into the DW. I haven't had a dishwasher for more than 30 years but I'm starting to miss it. I would get grossed out though when it left stuff on it. When washing by hand and using a good soap it gets clean. Sure, you just put it back in and rewash but it still bugs me. It also bugs me to see people leave dirty dishes in the DW for a week before washing them. Argh! If it takes a week to fill it, you should have a smaller DW or use a top rack only feature. This is what impresses me about the F&P Dish Drawers. And geez, I can wash a few dishes FAR faster than an hour or two for a dishwasher! LOL And when you compare the time to load the dishwasher vs washing, it's pretty close. Time's not a factor. It's the hassle of washing them. I soak my dishes and a quick swish, rinse in HOT water and into the drainer to dry. Putting them away is comparable to time in a DW. Oh, and one thing I found out quickly, the way you load it makes a big difference. You have to learn how the water sprays and make sure it's not blocked for effective washing....See MoreNew Miele DW Leaves Dirty Residue
Comments (9)So far no one has answered the question what detergent are you using? I found that using Electrasol Gel left film all over everything. Switched to Electrasol tab for the next run and everything was fine. Most other detergents work well. I also found that seventh generation did a terrible job by leaving everything including the insides of the machine covered with grit. So what detergents are in use and how much? My thoughts on the mugs. I mostly use the sensor cycle and wash mugs in my LaPerla but I don't usually load the ones with deep ridged bottoms on the sides. I load these down the middle of the middle rack because they sit a a sharper incline that allows the water to flow out easier. If I do wash ridged items on the sides and don't angle them, I expect to find water and perhaps trapped bits left in the tops because it is being held by the ridges and cannot slide off. Sometimes this happens, most times it doesn't. In the pictures the mugs look to be under the center of the pet dishes. No matter where the water is spraying from, water will end up falling and when it does it will cascade down over top of the items. There must be enough flow to the outside and top of the mugs to move the dirt trapped in the underside ridge of the mugs. Even the water that hits the inside of the pet dish may not do this because if any kind of stream hits the insides of this pet dish the water may be pushed the sides of it letting it fall down but not into the center of the mugs below...so loose dirt that would otherwise be rinsed off and taken care of by the DW will remain in place--small amounts of water may dry off but bits will remain. Look at the right side of the middle rack. At the bottom there are V shaped indentations. If you angle a mug handle or items into this V it will hold the cup or many other things up on an incline....See Moremegg
