I am starting to snoop around on my new laptop and I came across this:

For HTML editing it has Microsoft Office Word.

This computer came with the trial version which I did not open to look at as I am trying to get the courage to delete it off this computer.

I only use MS Word which I DL'd from my CD to have on here.

What would happen here if I deleted Microsoft Office 60 day trial. (not touched by me)

I don't understand what that HTML editing means?

Please explain what that is all about and if it needs Microsoft Office.

A Google search using the keywords "html editing" (sans quotes) provided the below definition, and numerous other sites which may provide you with the information you seek.

An HTML editor is a software application for creating web pages. Although the HTML markup of a web page can be written with any text editor. Like word or open office.

You can uninstall Microsoft Office 60 day trial. What do you plan on using for a word processor?

Open Office would work and is free.

I've read several posts similar to this one and I don't understand what all the fuss is about. If I wanted to reply to a Craigslist email, I could do it in about 6 seconds with a few mouse clicks and not have to make any changes to the browser at all, nor would I need to install any type of a plug-in that might not be supported the next time the browser gets updated. Right-click the Craigslist email address Select Copy E-Mail Address with a left-click Open a new Tab-go to your AOL EMail Click Compose Right-click in the To: field and left--click to PASTE the email address you just copied a moment ago. What could be easier? Sometimes the problems encountered by users wanting to make everything work with one click are better solved by using what is already available to you. It's not that hard, and you just might learn something useful along the way.

All of the internet providers are changing their policies for residential customers who constitute the heaviest users of system bandwidth. What's being implemented is sometimes monthly caps, sometimes added charges, sometimes both. If you're now over 300 GB per month, I'd guess in the future you will be using it less and paying more for what you use. You're probably already well aware of what your household's most data intensive uses are and who's responsible for such uses, the time may have come to start cutting back. Or, if you can afford it, you may need to just bite the bullet and understand your bill will be increasing.

These are instructions from Microsoft. I include them here only because it can be frustrating to find them at Microsoft when needed. 1.Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already started). 2.Empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder. To do so: a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. b. Click the General tab. c. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files. d. When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK. 3.In the Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk, remove the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. To do so: a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. b. Click the General tab. c. Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings. d. Click View Objects. The list of program files that are downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk appears in the Downloaded Program Files window. e. In the Status column, note the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. Remove these files. To do so, right-click the file, and then click Remove. f. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes. g. Close the Downloaded Program Files window, and then click OK two times. 4.Save an image in Internet Explorer to test and determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue continues to occur after you remove all downloaded program files that are listed as Unknown or Damaged, try removing the other downloaded program files that are on the list. Note: The next time that you need one of the files that you removed from the Downloaded Program Files folder, you will receive a prompt to download the file to your hard disk in Internet Explorer.

Jeff, the problem is that there is no line in the street - the line from town ends about 1000 feet from our property. Our neighbor to the north, another 1000 feet from the end of line, is the person who had the $10,000 quote and that is a few years old. I really should revisit this and see if there are other customers who could share in that cost. It's not Comcast, but a small (I think) company called Charter.

There are a number of programs that you can use for HTML editing, but I suspect that -- like most of us -- you don't create or edit web pages very often. So you really don't have to worry about whether you keep Microsoft Office on your computer. In the future, if you decide to become a web page editor, you can always install Microsoft Word, if that is the program you want to use to do the work.

urlee I use the free open office on all of my computers now and have not been disappointed at all, I do not miss MS office suite.
OpenOffice.org 3.2.1

as mentioned I doubt you will be doing much html editing though.

I have no problems with OO and highly recommend it. As a new user of OO you have to remember to save the document of concern in the format you wish to avoid an initial use headache. The default document format for OO is .odt. To create a document so it is readable in Word you would have to save it in a .doc format. It's easy to do the first time you save the document, and remains in the selected format from then on. Of course there are other formats offered when saving.

Thank you two but I am very happy with MS Word as I LIVE on it.
I use it EVERY day.

I love the fact you can send (your open document) from it to an e-mail recipient.
