CC, I am surprised you did not know Peeps because they are a Pennsylvania creation. The Just Born candy company is in Bethlehem, PA! I think we had Peeps in PA before the rest of the country discovered them.

I don't know what to think about all these interviews and I'm an HR person. I had an interview yesterday; I prepared for the job that the last manager thought up on the fly (Job B) after seeing my background. However, I gathered quickly that the lady yesterday didn't have a clue what that job was all about. So I switched gears to be aligned with what she was talking about (Job C).

She asked questions like "if you were a cartoon character, who would you be?" Give me a break! BTW I answered Since I no longer can fit into Wonder Woman's work clothes, I have to say Dora The Explorer because I like to travel and explore.

Anyway, I get an email today from another manager who wants to interview me tomorrow. I asked him if he had a position in mind for me (I hope he didn't take that the wrong way). He said "We want to explore what things you might be interested in. If nothing else for down the road."

I'm with you Linda, I don't care for peeps either but I thought there was more awareness of peeps.

Nancy, I will certainly have that image in my head tomorrow!

I've worked with many people like you. You're very good at so many wonderful things that a company needs, it's hard to put you where you will "best" work. And in the end, more than once, we've created a position to fit YOUR needs. I take "down the road" to mean, we really really really want you to be here, sans the actual groveling. Nothing more. They just want to take full advantage of what they have and don't want you to go somewhere else (if you're looking, you may or may not be dedicated to one employer). He just wanted a "save the company" invite.

I'm still in awe of what you are being put through for this or all those jobs. Maybe they're hoping you'll do all three jobs.

Cathy, I wish you the best and if this company (for some crazy reason) doesn't hire you they must be nuts! I know the job market is so competitive right now but how does that spell efficiency in an organization that spends that much time and energy, personnel etc. for one job opening? Seems ridiculous to me. You are so talented and have so much energy you will get a great position that is both suited for the company and for you. Good luck!

Interview #9: The guy I interviewed with Thursday said they needed me in Colorado. I told him that while I love CO., I couldn't relocate. I asked if he was interviewing me with a specific job in mind locally. He said "No, but we want to find a place for you because your experience and skills would be a good fit." He also said that one problem they are facing is that they literally had no place to put another employee as they have grossly outgrown their facility.

I did make some proposals for a program--that in my view--they need badly as they are a number of years behind in this area. I rolled it out with a previous employer about 8 years ago so I tried to dazzle him with an outline of the project (without talking down).

I'm starting to wonder if they are using me to practice interviewing skills.

Nine interviews? I can't even imagine! Still wishing you all the best... I hope it works out the way you want, with the position you want and no relocation!

That's crazy. The most I ever had for one position was three. Sometimes I had to meet with several people but it was all on the same day. That is really bizarre.

Still thinking positively. A friend's son who was in a highly competitive International Business program in Tokyo interviewed 8 rounds with an major European bank! But he did get the job! What are these people thinking?

Maybe you should submit a bill for your time and mileage! I hope they come to their senses soon.

Good luck Cathy I hope you get the job. I had 6 or 7 interviews when I was trying to get a job at Disney. The last time they called and said they wanted me to come back in I told them I would be happy to but I was done putting on a dress for them and I would be in jeans and sneakers. I got the job!

Wow, the most interviews I've ever had with one company was three, and the most I've ever done when hiring someone was three. After her I decided to do two at the most, she was the worst hiring decision I've ever made, and I spent all that time making it. She ended up getting arrested for smoking pot and I had to fire her. Something about having a criminal record when you work for the Prosecutor, you know. Heck, I just thought she was calm, I didn't realize she was stoned. (sigh) They'd have lost me on the presentation anyway!

So, they wanted to "talk". I think the time for talk is past, they need to DO something, sheesh.

Annie, That's funny! They did a thorough background check, I think all they found was that I am old.

Okay, so they don't currently have "room" locally. They want me to visit the Colorado site and met with the director, whom I have already interviewed with. I told them that while I am flexible in most situations, it would be disingenuous of me to take that trip when relocating is out of the question.

Final answer-If an opportunity comes up in the area, I would be honored to be considered.

If the Colorado site is in Fort Collins it would be great way for us to meet for lunch or dinner ;-)

It may still come through. Is this a waffle company? They sure have done a lot of waffling.

A large college with 120 campuses and they have no room? Have they not heard of remote commutes from a home office? They don't know about Peeps???

I am sorry you went through this, IMO they were not fair to you. They get the failing grade for losing you.

Funny Pam, nope nothing to do with waffles LOL--it's a chain of for-profit colleges. I just read an announcement that they are cutting 4% of their workforce due to low enrollment.

I would love to meet you in Boulder sometime. I was not well this past summer, so I wasn't able to do much around then. I'm hoping to be doing more next summer, but we'll see. Things aren't going as great as I had hoped right now, so I'm not sure how I'll be feeling by then.

Good luck with the job... maybe they'll realize how great of a catch you are and hire you despite the fact that you won't move out here.

I'm bummed for you! They were disingenuous for waffling like that! Taking a hit in "for profit" enrollment sounds like a new normal-- Study money isn't as easy to come by these days. Push for a telecommute or local travel!

I wonder if it was really a class in how to interview, and you were the subject. It actually sounds like it wouldn't be a good place to work, if that's an example of how they treat people.

While I would love to have you relocate to CO, it seems more than strange that they cannot make room for you locally, or have you telecommute.

Cathy, I'm only sorta sorry this company didn't make an offer. They sound dysfunctional. There's a disconnect happening somewhere in the chain of command & the decision process is suffering. Not sure that's a positive environment to land yourself. Chaos & dysfunction usually start at the top & work their way down to the bottom.

The perfect opportunity will present itself probably when & where you least expect it to appear. But, it will happen.
