(Vista) For three days I've been using a common Realtor website on my laptop with no problem and sent the link to my home pc; however, when I tried to retrieve the site by link later, it sort of hung in the air "thinking" until finally (and ever since) this comes up on the page: "input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE". I've tried to enter the site into the address bar and same thing. I've checked everything I know to check--deleted history, cookies, blocks, re-booted several times, etc; however, there MUST be something blocking it & I don't have a clue! Does anyone else?

You're seeing bits and pieces of a form as text instead of as part of the form on the page.

Can you post the link so we can look at the site and see if we have the same error.

Is there a possibility your PC is not prepared to recognize the format offered?

As a test you could save a successful laptop page on a thumb drive, install the drive onto your PC and see if you can open it.

The website is www.allentate.com. When I go home, I'll try putting it on a thumb drive and transferring it to the desk pc, but it's not a form, it's the main page to Allen Tate Companies.

I did a copy and paste and it loaded instantly for me.

Try rebooting the computer if it has been left running for a longer time. You do not say what operating system is on the home computer. If XP and the reboot does not cure it try running Ccleaner. Not sure if that program works on Vista if you have that on the home computer.

It loaded fine for me. I'm not sure why it won't load for you. Do you have dialup or broadband? Do other sites take a long time to load or is it just this one?

I didn't mean to imply that it was a form, just that there is a form on the page. An HTML form isn't necessarily a form that you fill out with name, address, etc. On that site, the form is the search form.

One possibility is that the server was having a problem when you tried to access it. If that is the case, it may load for you the next time you try it from home.

Couldn't have been the server--was using the laptop using wireless connection to the desk pc at the same time & it loads just fine & quickly. Also, using high speed internet. Everything else on the desk pc runs fine--just this one page! Home pc has Vista; laptop has XP.

my first question is are you using the exact same browser for both computers? as in both firefox and both the same version of firefox? or IE and firfox etc. Web pages render totally different in some browsers and will not render at all in some.

If using different browsers are even different versions of the same browser that could be your problem.

and you need to remember just because it is showing fine on one and not on the other at the same time can not rule out the server because your one pc could be seeing a cached version of the page while one is seeing a new refreshed version of the page. be sure you hit refresh on both browsers at the same time to know you are seeing a fresh version of the page.

I would go directly into the browser itself and clear the cache not use any third party applications do it right from the browsers, clear temp internet files, history, etc.

That means that's part of the page. It's needed in the form that displays on the actual page, but for some reason, it is showing up as text and not as part of the form.

Do you mean that your network at home is set up so that the desktop connects to the internet and you're using ICS to share the connection with the laptop? And it loads for the laptop but not the desktop?

That's very odd. Even if I misunderstood you're connecting both through the router, that would mean that the laptop works fine with the same connection.

Somebody else already asked this, but are you using the same browser and same version on both? Are there any other sites that give the desktop trouble?

I didn't see anything in the html that looked like it would cause problems for any browsers.

Well, just when I tho't I had it!!! Came home, put the thumb drive in desktop pc, clicked the link & it went right to the home page!!! THEN I clicked the link to go to my account & it hung up with the same statement as above. I also had copied my log-in page and it would also open it, but would not go anywhere that I clicked on that page without hanging there!!! Talk about frustration. How am I suppose to look for a house? I know I have the laptop, but I can manuver so much easier on the desk pc, plus I have a 19 in screen instead of a 15in. Oh, well, any other solutions?

um you did not answer any of the questions we asked or mention if you tried our suggestions???? how can we offer more if we do not know what you are working with?

The website is not opening at all for me right now just sits there spinning but never resolving. I even went to google did a search for it there and tried clicking on the links there for it but no go. I am using linux with firefox 2.0.0.16.
I would bet they are having problems, have you tried calling them and asking them if they are having problems?

The only way I could get that site to resolve was to go to goole then click on the cached button for a cached page then hit the text only and it finally opened up a page. I suspect they have some bad code or graphics somewhere in the source code for the webpage.

on my windows xp box with firefox 2.0.0.16 it does resolve immediately. I still think there is some thing strange in the source code.

Sorry, I guess I jumped the gun or tho't I'd answered them. I have XP on the Laptop & run FireFox. Have Vista on DeskPC & run Vista because Firefox had a glich a few months ago & wouldn't run, so went back to IE7. Please repeat any other questions I may have missed!

I am always able to get the site to load, using both IE7 and Firefox 3 on XP. I saw some code that was checking for cookies and deleted the allentate cookie and disabled cookies and it still loaded for me. I then discovered that the cookie code was never being called.

Everything else on the desk pc runs fine--just this one page! Home pc has Vista w/IE&; laptop has XP w/Firefox.

If you only need that site to find a home to buy go elsewhere. Seeing you are in the Carolinas I typed Carolina house sales into Google and there was a huge response.

Back to your problem. Perhaps there is something wrong with your computer the error does not seem to be with the web site. It loads in IE7, Firefox 2 and Opera with no problems.
