Can't get FF to load

My desktop is having a major problem. I can't get on-line, neither IE or FF will load. Screen stays white and shows it is trying to load. Internet wireless connection shows a strong signal. I can't see anything unusual in Task Manager. Tried various things with no luck. Tonight I notice, in the bottom bar it says: waiting for nbcudigitaladops.com.

On my other computer (all other computers are working fine on same signal), I Googled nbcudigitaladops.com. It appears to be some sort of website which tracks users. I am not sure what it is and wonder if anyone knows anything about it.

I ran my scans and all is clean but I can't update anything because I can't get on-line. One of the Google searches shows a connection with IVillage and that site. I tried updating FF to the latest version but can't get connected.

I wonder if that site is blocking my ability to get connected or if it is just a normal tracking thing. Thought I'd check here first before I have someone come to figure out what is wrong. Oh, I did try to connect using Safe Mode and still couldn't connect.

have you tried changing your home page? Youve blocked the portal link with utilities and the site now refuses to progress to load.

I think you need to get rid of "nbcudigitaladops.com", you are not alone with this but there seems no clear consensus about removing it.

As you have scanned and found nothing then consider removing Firefox and all add ons and re-install clean.

dwsam used HTML code in his post, but doesn't know the correct code. IE is much looser in what it allows, so even though it isn't coded correctly, IE displays it. The post starts with a link tag, but the tag isn't properly closed, so FF ignores it. If you view source and save it as dwsam.html, then edit it so that the <link . . . ends with /> instead of just > it will display in browsers that require proper html.

Go to top of page, View, Page Source, then do a "find" putting in ONE of the main words of "input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" and you'll find this sentence!!! What would that mean?" That means that's part of the page. It's needed in the form that displays on the actual page, but for some reason, it is showing up as text and not as part of the form. "Couldn't have been the server--was using the laptop using wireless connection to the desk pc at the same time & it loads just fine & quickly." Do you mean that your network at home is set up so that the desktop connects to the internet and you're using ICS to share the connection with the laptop? And it loads for the laptop but not the desktop? That's very odd. Even if I misunderstood you're connecting both through the router, that would mean that the laptop works fine with the same connection. Somebody else already asked this, but are you using the same browser and same version on both? Are there any other sites that give the desktop trouble? I didn't see anything in the html that looked like it would cause problems for any browsers.

More info: TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files. -- TFC only cleans temp folders. -- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail.

No it just looks like you are, default profile and secondary profile so I was confused a bit and thought you were running 2 profiles. When you have issues like that always go directly to the Mozilla folder in the program files folder on the C drive and try to open the Firefox.exe file from within the folder just double click it, that's where Firefox lives. First make sure there are no instances of Firefox already running in the Task Manger. If there are right click on the Firefox.exe in there and choose End process To get to Firefox Mozilla Folder: Open My computer, click local disk (c) look for program files folder double click it in that folder look for Mozilla folder double click it in there you will see Firefox.exe double click it. See what happens there. I also would consider a clean install as outlined in the link that means personal settings, bookmarks, add/ ons would be deleted. Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make cake. You can back up bookmarks if there important to you. You can always get the add / ons back. See if Firefox opens directly from the Mozilla folder in program files folder first I'm curious about that. Make sure Internet Explore is working so you can reinstall Firefox and I recommend version 7. If you decide to reinstall a clean slate and that's what I would do at this point. You may want to turn modem off and router for 30 seconds, replug modem in wait 30 sec, then plug router in.

Run Ccleaner too. Try making a direct connection to the computer using a cable. Right click the small computer Icons by the clock or the one Icon and choose repair.

Nothing works do a System Restore to yesterday.

That nbcdigital thing loads every time you refresh the Garden Web site.

Just because the wireless shows a strong connection does not mean you can download a web page always. You start to think about a possible DNS issue.

Might right click one of the browser desktop icons and click start without add-ons for ie, or similar with firefox.

Thank you all, I'm still at work but will give all those a try when I get home. Weird part is sometimes when the screen is trying to load and I click on a 'favorite' it opens the site such as this forum. But I can't navigate away from it.

Same thing happens with both browsers. I use Bing as a home page for FF and Google for IE. I don't know what DNS means or what to look for. When looking at the white screen I see that site listed on the bottom tool-bar. All my other machines work fine in the house except this one. I've had connection problems (slow loading) with this machine for a long time. Now its worse.
