If they are low end bifolds from Lowes, or something equally crappy, you definitely should be concerned. On the other hand, if they are quality bifolds, they should work perfectly well -- for bifolds. If you don't like that style of door, say so, and ask for them to be changed.

It's a matter of personal preference. For me, we had bi-fold doors in our last house and I hated them for the closets at that house. If you have bi-folds make sure that the closets/pantry are deep enough so that nothing in the closet/pantry will be touching the doors as stuff will get stuck in the doors, the doors won't close, etc. If I were to use bi-folds again, I'd make sure that clothes closets were at least 30" deep. At my old house, the closets were only 24" deep and that was a problem--we live in Wisconsin and the sleeves on winter jackets were always getting stuck in the doors. Also, at our old house there was a bi-fold on the linen closet and the door opening was, I think, only 24" wide. The bi-fold door took up at least 6" when open which reduced the useable access to only 18" or less which didn't always work out so well. We have all walk in closets in our new house except for the coat closet by the front door. Instead of using bifolds, we used double regular swinging doors that swing outward and I really like that set up a lot better than bifolds.

I've been using bi-folds for closets -- one set is more than 30 years old with NO problems. I prefer the type that doesn't intrude into the closet space. Absolutely level track is a necessity and quite possibly the biggest headache involved.

I'm not a fan of walk-in pantries; finding pull-out shelving units far easier to use, more space effective and giving a better set of options for what is stored at eye-level. My last set used finished cabinet doors on the handle side of each unit, eliminating the need for any other door.

I would not have bifolds again. Problems I had were that they don't stay open, it's difficult to access the side of the closet that the door opens and folds towards, and over time the tracks became slightly deformed and the doors didn't open very well.

Have any of you seen/used this Full Access bifold hinge? I have a closet whose door opens in and wastes a lot of space. It canÂt open out because it would hit the door to the bedroom. This Full Access hinge would allow full access to the small closet and not be in the way at all.

I would love to hear from someone who has used it.
