or introduce myself. I've been reading this forum for a few months and have been enjoying it. I've wanted to post, but wasn't sure whether protocol called for an intro or just a jump-right-in. (I haven't seen intros so far and wasn't srue what to do). After I found the conversation side, I decided to post an intro.

My DH and I live in southern Illinois and are in the process of building a house. I found this forum through the Kitchen Forum. We had our house shelled and are doing the finishing work ourselves, not living in it yet. I will have, for the first time in my life, a kitchen that I am very excited to work in. Nothing fancy, but a kitchen that I will love to use.

Cooking (and knitting) is a passion of mine and we like to try new recipes very much. There are a lot of different foods we haven't tried, but I am very willing and so is DH.

We live in-the-middle-of-nowhere so are limited sometimes as far as things we would like to try, but we ARE trying!

Between us, we have six kids (all grown) and two Westies (one 6 years and one 8 months).

I am really looking forward to cooking with all of you!

This is why I'm on line as much as I am. All that, and all they had to do was go directly over the concrete. Ditra, at most. Sounds to me like someone was either trying to raise the elevation of the floor, and did it in a really funky way, or they were trying to beef up their bill. One of the two. Either way, it wouldn't last long.

Insurance varies by state -- talk to your insurance company or agent to get the right info. Renter's insurance is typically to insure what the renter has on the property -- their belongings, not yours or the land and structures. It is not generally liability insurance and his getting that would be more difficult and expensive. Your property insurance would generally be the insurance to cover any damage, and you may pay more for insurance with a tenant on the premises (not only can he cause damage, he could be injured and sue you for having a dangerous condition -- where that responsibility for maintaining the property would need to be clearly set out in writing). Your situation is different from a home with daily living and the risks that come with it (cooking, plumbing, floods, fires, etc.) Contractors are often bonded to cover loss to property they work on. Something like that might be possible for your situation. The dollar amount on the property is negligible -- about $37 per acre. Make sure you know what the taxes are. Typically they would be prorated, so you would normally have 1/4 but would be agreeing to the additional 3/4. Make sure he isn't behind on the taxes or that there aren't other surprises. I think you need to talk to the pros to verify what these costs are. That should make your answer a lot easier. I don't think you can make an intelligent decision without knowing those things first.

So sorry for the loss of your grandaughter, texasfern. What a wonderful tribute and idea for her siblings to remember her by doing a piece of mosiac. It looks like a candy ice cream sundae and good enough to eat. You do wonderful mosaics and I hope you can find some solace in your art again. I've been through some rough times over the last several years and if hadn't had my ceramics I don't know what I would have done. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I wouldn't wory about an irrigation device unless I lived in the SE of England. And even then I'd consider buying a water butt or getting a 1/4 ton drum from a factory or something, bury it at the side of the house and put a connection into it from the bath and shower waste. Then I'd either pump it to the main plot or have some sort of ducting take it there. But thinking about that, the cost would come to something in the region of one or two thousand if I were to have it done professionally I imagine. But just having a butt on a still and draining it periodically with an hosepipe, would come to about one or two hundred. Maybe Â£50 to get a plumber link it to your grey water. If the OP is trying to set himself up in business he should have said. It's a good idea but not a staple earner. If he's moving inrto a new house and can afford to hire a small digger, he should consider putting land drain pipes in to take his bath and washing machine water. But not if he is thinking of going organic. Soap is OK (I think) but detergent is full of phosphates. Even dishwasher soap is a fertiliser. (It's used to make homebrew.)

Welcome y'all! If you haven't guessed, we're in Texas. You will learn, love and laugh in this forum.
I just finished priming the trim in our kitchen--not a remodel so much as a redecorating, but work nonetheless. However, a good kitchen usually reflects a good cook, and I'm sure your kitchen is going to be superb!
I have a sister in S. Illinois, and we are in back of nowhere ourselves (in fact, we have to drive about 10 miles to get to nowhere) but making do with what you've got is the mark of a great cook.
Check out some of the other forums--kitchen, recipe exchange, money saving tips, vegetable gardening, herbs etc.--and post any questions or comments you have. Your input will be welcome!
