I've been here awhile, just quietly taking it all in. As I get closer to the finish, it just kind of felt wrong not to share. I have lurked, stalked and admired so many of you. So here goes...... Beginner at work here, the maple kitchen is the before (hopefully you guessed that), and the rest is my work in progress, being held up currently by the flooring!

Love any ideas for decorating and last minute touches!!

Tell us more! What is that wood? Counter? What kind of floor? Thinking about BS yet? Loving what you've done so far -- and with a baby in the mix -- you ambitious Mamma!

Wellllll, the cabinets are maple shakers stained cocoa and the counters are Ceasarstone blizzard. The floor we are going with is Strand woven bamboo, the problem has been to go coffee or tiger....Long story. But we have two dogs, a lab and a mastiff and two babies 4 and 1.....so we need something strong!!!!

Does it have to be a dress? How about nice black slacks, heels and a dressy top? Or a jacket and coordinated blouse. Cute earrings, cute bag and you're set. Do you have a Nordstroms? Was recently looking for a dress to wear to a wedding and saw some really cute things in the women's section. I don't wear women's so nothing worked for me, but I ended up with a print skirt, sleeveles beaded linen top and matching cardigan sweater which I got at Macy's. It was Jones New York, so nice fit and quality. I hear you about the dresses. I'm a size 12 pear, and every one I tried on was horrible. Too big on top, too small on the bottom, too low, big arm holes. I feel your pain. Good luck, and let us know what you do. (Oh and congrats on the weight loss. Keep going.)

Hey Judi, Welcome y'all! If you haven't guessed, we're in Texas. You will learn, love and laugh in this forum. I just finished priming the trim in our kitchen--not a remodel so much as a redecorating, but work nonetheless. However, a good kitchen usually reflects a good cook, and I'm sure your kitchen is going to be superb! I have a sister in S. Illinois, and we are in back of nowhere ourselves (in fact, we have to drive about 10 miles to get to nowhere) but making do with what you've got is the mark of a great cook. Check out some of the other forums--kitchen, recipe exchange, money saving tips, vegetable gardening, herbs etc.--and post any questions or comments you have. Your input will be welcome!

Chiming in to say I don't pre-wash my pre-cuts, and I've never had a shrinkage issue. Love that quilt, Valarie! I have some Kaffe Fassett 6" squares I purchased a couple of years back, and now I know what to do with them. Be sure to keep us posted on your pre-cut progress, Rita! Funny Sidenote: In my head, I always read his name & pronounced it "Coffee Faucet." When I heard someone in a video introduce him, I smacked myself. ;) It still takes me a moment to adjust and pronounce it correctly (first name one syllable with long a; last name rhymes with 'bassett'). Anyone else butcher up his name the first time you read it? :)

My son, daughter-in-law, and DILs father came to visit us at our cabin in the mountains on March 12th. The news at the time was meh on the virus impact. Within the weekend the seriousness became apparent. As my DILs father is high risk due to recent heart surgery, and both son and DILs offices had gone to working from home they decided it was safer to stay here rather than go back to Atlanta. They have been here since! Then my daughter’s school cancelled classes and shut down dorms so she came up. Plus all of their pets. So I have 6 adults, 10 dogs, 2 cats and 8 chickens at my house! We have been cooking and cleaning constantly. Thankfully the local towns of Blue Ridge and Ellijay put out a bulletin showing which restaurants are still open via curbside service. We have been making an effort to buy from at least one restaurant per week, sometimes 2. We are lucky in that the 3 “kids” are still working remotely for now at least. I am the only one still working outside the house, and am actually doing tons of overtime. I come home and go through the back entrance into my bedroom, get right in the shower and put my clothes in the wash. It’s been a bit of a grind doing this every day but in the scheme of things it’s doable. We will endure and continue as long as takes, but I’m hoping and hoping for more testing plus a vaccine as soon as possible! I consider us lucky in that we can all live together pretty harmoniously. Both of my kids have friends who don’t get along with their parents well enough to be able to stay with them for any length of time, which I find so odd. I will miss them terribly when they go back to their lives. I know I will look back on this time with gratitude that we got to be together and enjoy at least that. It is funny in the morning when we are all trying to get coffee and the kids all set up their laptops and put in their earbuds to start working. In the evenings when I’m home we make cocktails and snacks and do a movie night. So far our biggest issue has been laundry as we have a pretty small w/d right now. We were planning on upgrading just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

Love the richness of the cabinets against the lightness of the counters. The floor should look great. Don't forget to post more pics and details as you go. The kitchen seems more open now also. Very nice!!

Ahhhhhhhh....hear my sigh of relief. Although I love it so far, I have been so worried that it wasn't all I'd cracked it up to be!!! It's not a million dollar kitchen or million dollar house for that matter, but it's ours and hopefully will function so much better than the last. (on top of being prettier, because well, pretty is awfully important!)

Here is the reason for the bamboo.....This is Lola and she's only 15 weeks old.She's a sweetie, but she's going to be a big girl!

Lola's a Love (she's the Mastiff pup, yes? - I have 2 Ridgebacks myself , but a pup and a baby and a new kitchen. Wow! You sure do have your hands full!).

...also love the dark cabs juxtaposed against light (doing same myself in a bathroom reno).

Interested in the efficiency of what look like horizonal pulls on cab doors??

did you reconfigure from a closed peninsula to an island with seating? Great move with kids. We just went from an L with a table to an L with an island it is wonderful. Kids at eye level, we can cook with company (kids or adult) - I was kind of dragged into the island with the promise of cabinet space (looks wise I love a table or an open bottom island that looks like a table) but for us the island function has been outstanding.

Love the dark cabinets and light counters - you really have expanded the space.

I adore the dark cabinets with the white stone counters. I love that island too...great move to have the additional seating. Great job. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hmmmm, thought I responded, but it doesn't appear to have gone through!
Paintme: Lola is a love, you're right. But a handful, and my poor old Lab thinks I've done this on purpose just to terrorize him!
The handles were one of my first plans, considering how long the cabinets run, I thought this look was more suited. Not super efficient on a few doors as the cabinets are different depths, but I'm willing to compromise for the look.
Sparklekitty: you're exactly write about the reconfiguring. Can't wait to get proper stools so that we don't look so silly sitting there (no blinds yet so the neighbours must get a giggle)
My flooring fellas should be arriving soon, so with any luck that will be done by tomorrow or the next day!

Beautiful job, very nice. Amazing amount of work accomplished with all you have going on. It definitely looks like a million bucks!

rjr220: how did I miss this question? BS???? Yes, I'm in love with my backsplash and it's going in on Thursday!!!! Another major hold up with the floors, but my light fixtures go in tomorrow and BS on Thursday. It's tumbled, frosted, and clear glass mixed with white marble! super excited!!
