I'm very sorry to hear this. What kind of tumor is it? I'm certainly no stranger to brain tumors -- I have two. Mine are meningiomas. I have a very close family member that is in the end stages with a Glioblastoma right now and a classmate from college that had surgery last week for what they think is an Astrocytoma (still waiting on pathology for the staging and confirmation), and have a very close friend that had an oligodendroglioma. I've done lots of research on brain tumors! My DH said just the other night "Did you ever think you would know so many people with brain tumors?"

Dlynn, I am not sure yet what it is, they are doing a biopsy to determine what kind of "oma" it is. Thanks for your kind offer to answer questions. I am sure we'll have lots of those!

Right now I am just praying it is benign, I'll worry about the rest once we know that much.

My mom is exhausted, but keeps on going. I told her to let the docs know if she needs something to get her to relax, but she won't do it. I suppose keeping busy is helping her cope.

Linda, I'll be keeping you, Frank, your mom and the medical staff in my prayers. Your mom probably does need to be busy, but she needs to be gently reminded to rest now and then, so she can continue to be there for your step dad.

Well, the news is not what we were hoping. The tumor is malignant. He is scheduled for surgery on Monday morning to try to remove it.

Don't know much about these things, but I hope they can remove it and everything will be fine. Is that even possible? I suppose he'll need chemo or something, too?

Gosh, I hope they can get that sucker....

Linda, I am sorry that your stepfather has this challenge. I do hope that he comes through with flying colors. Every year I go to our hospital's cancer survivors celebration and I have learned that cancer is no longer a death sentence by any means.
