I'd guess a subpanel feeds the dryer and the affected circuits. The neutral is loose in the sub or where the feed connects to the main. Over time oxidation increases the connnection's resistance and it won't pass enough voltage to operate light dury appliances and lights. However, the dryer is a large load (low resistance) and thus raises the voltage drop across the oxidized loose connection. It arcs across and makes contact for a while, until the oxidation builds up again. The reason the cycles are getting more frequent is that each time the arc is struck, the gap in the "connection" gets wider. The motor in the dryer runs on 120v. The loose neutral caused voltage on that leg to jump way up, and it smoked. Another possibility is that one of the hot legs in the main is loose. This would leave the dryer motor failure unexplained, but that could be coincidence. QUestion. DO you ever notice that your lights, esp. on the "ghost" circuit, momentarily get BRIGHTER when a large 120 volt load (iron, air-con, water pump, etc.) on another circuit starts up?

Your first response to Elmer included a quote of what I had written, which explained the use of the Backspace key. And included in that response of yours to Elmer, you said that pressing the Backspace key once would take him to the top of this page, and pressing it a second time would take him back one page of his browsing session. That is incorrect. Pressing the Backspace key once (when not in the Comment box, typing like I am) will take you back one page in your browsing session and pressing it a second time will take you back one page further in your browsing section. If you are reading on a page and you want to get quickly to the top of the page, press the HOME key. The PAGE UP key will also move you upwards, but not completely to the top with one press. Depending on how far down the page you are, you might have to press the PAGE UP key several times.

I don't know. It's a feature most will encounter consistently with commercial websites that require a log in - I'm thinking bank and other financial accounts, utility or other service providers, stores, etc,. Such connections are dropped after a certain number of minutes of inactivity and to continue one must log in again. Websites do that to avoid the need to juggle a linearly compounding increase in live connections as the day progresses I can't imagine it would be something the operating system would do. A peculiarity of the new Edge? Try using a different browser some day and see if the same thing happens. Or could it be a stutter with your internet connection? A connection dropped and then reestablished because of your ISP, or the modem, or the router? Or dropped because your PC goes to sleep/hibernates when you leave it for 10 minutes and in doing so drops off the Wifi signal? If your PC use is intermittent during the day, try turning off the Go to Sleep/Hibernate setting in Power Management and see if that's the culprit. Or, if you're away from your PC for a bit, log in to your router using your smartphone and see if the PC is still connected.
