The other day I was on Facebook and clicked on a you tube link...couple seconds in my screen turned dark green and said "locked"...so I quickly shut it down. so I go back to start up my laptop, put in the password to get in...all the icons load...and usually if it's been all the way shut down, skype and a couple other items pop up and you have to close or quit them. That didn't happen which I thought was unusual but didn't think much of it because its usually just a nuisance. so now after I logged in and all the icons/program load up on the front screen as I call it...it just keeps blacking out and reloading the icons..over and over. If I'm fast enough, I can open up the internet and still use it but you can see in the background that screen reloading over and over and over...

I did power off, I took the battery pack out and restarted and it still does it.

anyone ever heard of or experienced this?? I'll have to take it in to be looked at...but just wondering if anyone knows what may have caused that.

BTW, it's a older fat, heavy, nothing fancy Toshiba but it still works for my needs..if it's affordably repairable, I will get it fixed.

Sounds like you might have gotten some malware or virus. Do you have an anti-malware program on your machine? If not, one you might try is MalwareBytes AntiMalware. Last time I had to use it, it was a free download. It has good instructions and a helpful forum to help you through the troubleshooting.

Microsoft also offers a Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Worst case scenario is you might have to do a factory reset to restore proper functioning. I had to do that about 2 years ago, and there was a way to save my files but I did have to reinstall some programs - sorry but I don't remember the details. Microsoft Help walked me through it.

This is all based on my admittedly limited experience.

You can attempt a Safe Mode boot with networking and download Trend Mirco online virus/malware scanner. It's self explanatory from there.

If you're not familiar with Safe Mode, look it up on your phone.

Larry, thanks. And as you can see, I'm back. I finally found the "contact us" link on the bottom of the page and learned something. If you try to post 3 pics in 3 different posts one right after the other, the spam filter catches and blocks you. So for those of us too pc illiterate to post 3 pics at once, good to know. Or even if you post in different forums, they said leave 10 minutes between them. I think this sucks but I understand they have to filter out the spam.

Hi pkspigs, All I can find on the issue is "If your iPad is disabled, someone typed in the wrong passcode enough to disable it. LOL, Rosa - I had trouble setting up my iPad, too...I think I somehow bypassed the first setup screen. Took forever to figure out how to tell it I wasn't in Bermuda! :) They sure leave a lot of it up to you to figure out. I finally found the iPad user's guide on the Apple website. My mom keeps saying she wants to buy a new car. Her current car is a 1988 model (I think), and she hates both change and technology. I can't imagine trying to teach her about a new car with all the changes they've made since 1988! My brother got her either Dish TV or Direct TV one year. The guy came and installed all the stuff and left. Well, he may have given her the 2 minute training session they tend to give! LOL Anyway, she turned the TV on, her favorite channel wasn't at the right number, and she called them to cancel it and come get their equipment. They cancelled the service but no one ever came to get the dish and other stuff, so they are still there. She won't even let us unplug any of it because she's afraid her house will burn down or something. >sighsighDonna

I fear you still have some of the infections still lingering and that could very well be interfering with your installation. I would suggest going to LzD and having Corrine look at your logs she will be able to see if any of the infection is still there and how to remove it. She is great at this she goes step by step as slow as you need. You would not want to risk having infections on it at any rate. Analysis and Malware Removal that is the link to LzD where you can create your own post, you do need to register at the forum and they will email you back. I am there and Corrine will be there to help you. Let us know so we can be watching for you.

when I googled when this first happened, I did read something about a safe mode something or other... I'l check it out thank you.

Malwarebytes is free to use it's a very good product. I would try running a malwarebytes scan. Just continue to select the free version.

Malwarebytes was a good recommendation, it's very competent.

If you're still seeing something funky, uninstall that browser and use a different one for awhile. First clear the cache of all retained files.
