How do I check on the state of the battery?

I would look up the model number here and look for the manual to find out what the blink codes mean, usually it means the battery is weak or needs replacing, on some brands it means the battery is recharging. So look up your model number and see.

Raven when I hover over the icon for the APC says it is charging.. it charged all nite & today if that is true. I have a HIGH pitch shrill sound too.. not too load though. I clicked on the icon & earlier today it said:
battery capacity was 100%...
estimated time was 13 minutes ..line noise 1 time.. that it was running normally...
NOW it says:
electrical noise 7 times.. battery capacity 57%
it is operating normally.

It isn't operating normal..something is wrong somewhere.
I looked at the site U gave me but don't understand it.
I don't know what to do. is my computer safe?
This noise is driving me up the wall.

well I can't say for certain but my guess is that you probably need a new battery for it. On the site I gave you there is an area you can enter your model number and it will allow you to find the manual info for your model (on the left click on manuals then you can enter yours).

Do you happen to have the manual that came with it to see if it has any trouble shooting ideas in it.

If the power was off for a while and it caused the battery to use up it's reserves then to see it charging is a normal thing however it should do that and be done, generally when one charges then drops then charges it means it is not holding the charge and needs replacing.
I have no clue if that is your case however.

I hate to keep bothering people here but think I have something to add that mite help.

I'm pretty sure now that the blinking & high pitched sound is coming because of electrical noise. The APC is at 100% power now & says it is running normally. The power only went down because I unplugged it & turned it off a few hours during a storm.

I looked into the the information under the parachute (guess thats what the icon is) I followed the links there & it had how to turn the sound off. It was caused by electrical noise. Even though the sound is gone I know the problem is still there.

Now what is causing that electrical noise? Is it my computer? Is it in the lines in this large Apt building? Is it the APC? Is it my ISP? MOST OF ALL is it harming my computer? Do I need to have the APC replaced or the computer checked or something else?
I'm just not sure what to do next.

Dar I sure wish I knew the answers to give you but I am just not very familiar with APC and those types of issues. Maybe someone else can provide some more info for you soon.
At least you got the noise gone!

Suggest you test whether the noise if from the APC or otherwise. Disconnect the APC and computer from the wall plug. Without using the APC, plug the computer directly to the wall plug. This should tell whether the noise is from the APC. If you still get noise without the APC it may be the computer. But another possibility : Another step -- if there is still noise without the APC -- plug the computer into a different wall plug and/or house circuit. You may need a lengthy extension cord to avoid the possibility of connecting to the same circuit. If you find a connection without the noise, and it is not your computer, there is the possibility of the original wall outlet having a loose connection behind the wall plug cover. A loose connection could cause a problem.
