Wolf or Modernaire vent hood over Wolf gas RT?
Comments (0)To go over a Wolf 36 inch open burner gas rangetop, would appreciate having your input whether to get a Wolf or a Modernaire hood and liner/motor. Does either one have a "better" set of motors/baffles? In each case I'm thinking 650 CFM internal. No grill or griddle and any pan searing would be done on one of the two middle burners. Any reason to believe the stainless steel on the Wolf hood would match the RT better than the stainless steel on the Modernaire? Would appreciate any thoughts . . . ....See MoreWolf Vent Hood Pricing
Comments (23)One other issue with removal for cleaning -- it has to be done over a cooktop and counter. A gas cooktop on a laminated counter will be pretty immune to damage, but a glass cooktop has several weaknesses to human pressure and dropped part stress, while stone countertops around cooking devices may be minimally supported and not capable of handling human weight pressure. I would suggest that removing baffles (at least from my Wolf hood) is minimal risk compared to removing a VaH blower. My larger risk is minimizing cooktop and counter pressure when reaching up into the hood to clean surfaces in there while the baffles are out, and my stone has more than typical support. With VaH over stone and induction, I would want to build a removable wood surface that was stiff and air gapped above the cooktop, designed to bring forces onto the countertop at locations where the countertop was supported....See MoreIs the Hestan Ventilation hood the same as Vent-a-Hood?
Comments (14)Danny Z, The Hestan refrigeration products are all made by an Italian company called Fhiaba. Consumer Reports last year raked them over the coals last year. I was thinking for built-ins (actual cabinet depths with the special hinges and custom fronts) of going with Miele, Fisher Paykel (most affordable), Liebherr, or Thermador. After much thought and research, I always come back to the very expensive tried and true... Sub-Zero. Not their newer more modern models but their classic versions. https://www.subzero-wolf.com/sub-zero/full-size-refrigeration/builtin-refrigerators They are the most serviceable and really stand by their products. Parts are always available and service is readily available. I had a glass front Traulsen in the past and it was a nightmare. I also looked into the newly designed True Residential line and bounced back to the Sub-Zero. OpaOne. Thank you. Yes, I agree. I'm about to press the order on a Blue Star 48" RNB with the 24" griddle as you have done. The burners are what have me hooked, that and that they are the easiest to repair and basically just like how my large outdoor kitchen grill/burners are set up. I once had a Garland with a salamander set up that was a similar type of burner as the BS, in a house in Connecticut, problem was that that had to have the kitchen built around it! LOL. I haven't ordered yet as I've been waiting to see what all of the hype is about with their new and much delayed Dual-Fuel Range/Rangetop series is all about. Of course, that places BS with the dilemma of mixing electronics with old-fashioned high heat. Not a good mix and much the reason why Wolf succumbed to lowering their BTU output and sealed burners. Take care everyone....See MoreWolf Pro Ventilation Hood - Help Please
Comments (1)There is actually a thread here on this topic that might be found by searching. For the 10 baffle assemblies in my Pro Island hood, I do the following: Assuming each baffle assembly is not "glued" to its neighbors or to the grease tray due to aged grease, grab each of the two red buttons on one assembly and slide the assembly upward and toward the center away from the grease tray (thereby compressing a leaf spring) and then rotate the bottom out. Remove the assembly out of its position by pulling down. Use the center baffle assembly to start when there are only three to a side. If stuck to the others due to grease, try separating the grease tray by pushing up on the baffle and down on the grease tray, then use some side force to separate the baffles from each other. There should be enough side-to-side play to do this. Note that my hood was fabricated for Wolf by Independent ca. 2008 and there may be details that have changed. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure that the baffle assembly leaf spring is toward the upper direction. The assembly should sit snugly in the grease tray when installed, held in position by the tension on the leaf spring at the upper end. If a glass cooktop is involved, protect against accidental drops....See Morebetsy_anne
