Comments (9)thinking of asking him to replace some of the ming green 5/8 x 5/8 tiles and replace the ones that are lighter/yellower in color with pieces that are more green. Do you think this would work? It might, if he's choosy about the pieces he uses to replace with. Also, should he have sealed the tiles before he installed and grouted? He said he didn't because it would have impacted the adhesiveness of the grout. I don't know about it impacting the adhesion of the grout-- I've seen grout stuck to the face of sealed stone before, and it was STILL a nightmare to get off! I DO, however, agree that I'd rather grout unsealed stone. I can't explain it exactly, but it grouts differently. it's a personal thing with installers. Some would rather seal first, others would rather grout first. For those DIYing, who aren't used to grouting stone, I would strongly recommend sealing first. Along those lines, what marble sealer should I use on the tiles after they are all re-installed? I don't want to use a sealer that will make my tumbled marble look polished/shiny. Look for something like Miracle's 511 Impregnator or Stone Tech's Impregnator Pro. Both are solvent based breathable penetrating sealers, and will go a long way toward protecting your tile. Comments (3)We have basketweave on the shower floor only - the rest of the bath is bigger (12 inch square) marble tiles. So far (2 years) no problems. Our contractor preferred basketweave on the sloped shower floor and nobody in the many tile stores I visited advised against using it in the shower, either. Now I would like to know, too, why that was not a good choice....See Morewhite ceramic subway tile w/ marble in master bath: can this work?
Comments (31)Flo, thanks so much. I just got home from the tile shop. I like the basket weave with the black dot (not the dark grey I was considering) and the guy I’ve been working with at the shop suggested just buying field tile that matches the dot and use that as the liner on the rug (cut into 1/2” strips). His thought on the wall is to either use that same liner, to match the dot, or skip it. I’m leaning towards skipping it and letting the floor be the focal point. Do you still think this a tough tiling job? Is it the basket weave or herringbone subway or ...all of it together?. I imagined that the wainscoting would be easy. To answer your question, no I don’t dye my hair at home, but thanks for the heads up....See Morelarger-format basketweave marble tile: thoughts? pics?
