I'm thrilled to pieces!! Happiest News!!

My son, Nathan, got engaged last night! I'm just thrilled! I knew it was coming as they had been planning to get engaged but last night was the big event. He popped the question and she, of course, said yes. She's a lovely young lady and I'm delighted to have her in the family.

Now the fun part! Let the planning begin. Wheeeeeee!!!!!!!

May, I'm happy for you. Life is good when you like/love your DIL/SIL. We look forward the plans being rolled out.

I've thought about the implications of not liking my SIL; he's a wonderful husband and father--I think I have a crush on him.

I've written this here before, but I keep lemongrass in a pot - and I keep it in the ground. Each spring, after all danger of frost (which will definitely kill it), I take out the pot of lemongrass that I overwinter in a sunny room in my house. I trim back all the dead leaves and sprouts, then dump the whole clump out of the pot into my wheelbarrow. Using a shovel, I cut the clump in two (I could break it into more pieces). One half I place back in the pot with new potting soil and compost. I do not use an extremely large pot, because I want it to be reasonable for moving into the house in winter and then doing all of what I just described. That pot stays out in a very sunny location all summer, grows to refill the pot, and it will be moved in before any danger of frost. I harvest from it as I like all summer. The other half I plant in a very sunny location in my garden. It grows huge, and actually makes the most flavorful and juicy lemongrass for harvest all summer long. It definitely dies completely once it gets cold enough here in my zone 7 garden. I've been doing this for 5 or 6 years now, and I see no reason I won't be able to continue. I get plenty of lemongrass. By the way, I also grow lemon verbena in pots that have to be moved in every winter. I grow lemon balm in pots to keep it from taking over, but I leave it out. For some reason, one of my pots of lemon balm died completely last winter, a particularly harsh one, but I just divided the one that survived, and both pots are full again. They are forecasting another cold winter - I'll probably move most of my potted mints and things I leave out to a more protected part of my yard for this winter.

YEA! I just bought Chamomile tea - so that item is checked off the list for now, I pretty much have everything but the Thermometer and a marking pen. I'll be putting the set up together myself, so figure it will at least be an all day project. Dawn, yeah, I usually put my seed trays on top of the fridge until they germinate. Right after I see a few pop up, I move it to the lights and let the rest follow suit. I have grown African Violets before, and they are also easy to propagate from leaf cuttings. Regular AVs are small plants (can get pretty wide), but there are also some very small, tiny even, AVs that are super cute. As a former avid Begonia grower, I also used to grow a lot of them under lights, growing from seed (very tiny, dust-like seeds), and some will root via leaf cuttings like the AVs, pieces of rhizome for the Rhizomatous varieties, and stem cuttings from the canes, shrubs, semps, Rex (which I don't grow because they are just more finicky than I care to deal with), thick-stemmed, a few tuberous (not the large-flowering ones that like to grow in the cooler Northern climes). I used to show my begonias at the local, regional, and national show levels. But that is a very long time ago. I recall one of the entries was a fish tank in which I put plants I had grown from seed - about 10 different ones, that were meant for a high humidity environment, and it was gorgeous. I may get back into some begonias in a very small way. Begonias of this category really do like light gardens because they are shade loving plants and lights don't emit anything close to the intensity of outdoor sunlight. There is a local begonia show around March or April here in the city, of the Barkley Branch of the American Begonia Society, and they always have a plant sale along with it. If I can remember, I may go and p/u some there. The small Rhizomatous are better suited to light gardening. The fluorescent tubes that come with the garden are T-5s. Apparently this is a good blend of the red and blue spectrums for good growth. Mmmmmmmm, a Mesclun or microgreens mix sounds very, very good. Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I am thrilled - I always put everyone else in the family first - I don't buy clothes or shoes, except when I have to, or anything special, other than my coffee beans, so it's kind of a guilty pleasure I'm indulging in. But, life is short, and it only took be approx. 30 years to make the decision to go for it. I'm sure I have tons of seed in my "seed box" that will be suited for growing this time of year. When I think it can't get any better, it does. May, I love everything, the bowl, the cookbook and the wine. Just a perfect package. Lars, we have mesquite on our land and DH does the same as your Dad. I have seen some beautiful furniture made from mesquite. Oh that face! Scarlett is gorgeous and her markings are beautiful but that face is a heartbreaker. I can't wait to see her grow into those paws. I'm so glad that the Canidae agrees with her. I was giving Amber her morning scritches today and was marvelling over how soft and shiny her coat was. I don't know if I can give all of the credit to Canidae or genetics (maybe the poor girl actually got something good out of the puppy mill that she must have come from)but I do know that she isn't greasy like my last beloved Rottie Smidgen was. I can just imagine your golden's reaction to the young upstart! I hope that the food is agreeing with her as well. Kim- Sometimes I think that I'm stalker like when it comes to exceptionally adorable pictures and the one of Murphy & Buddy stuck in my head because I thought it was such a crack up & a typical rottie thing...like "you REALLY meant to be taking a picture of me, right?" Nearly every picture of my kitchen has a big, dopey, dog face poking in somewhere. I love the picture of your newest two and Bo's got such a mischeivous face. Love it! dccnm- I'd like to suggest some great cookies/treats for Scarlett. The Canidae snap bisquits are excellent and each biscuit is scored to be broken into smaller pieces. I've found the smaller pieces to be great for stuffing into a Kong. Innova's biscuits are wonderful too and come in two different sizes. Old Mother Hubbard (Wellness) makes a bunch of good treats in a variety of sizes. I tend to use these for our everyday around the house training or rewards (or the ever popular Kong)& save the high value stuff like hot dogs or chicken for when we're out in public or in class. I love my SIL too! He's the best! I have often said "That if any thing happens between them I may just keep SIL." LOL!

Congratulations to all of you! My first thoughts were like RR's - Nathan can't be old enough to be engaged - but of course he can.

I remember his published crossword puzzle and his occasional cooking questions here. It's been fun seeing him grow up.

I was hoping that was the news!

And I smugly state that I have the privilege of actually knowing Nathan and can testify that he is indeed a great guy. May, is the girl someone who went to camp with him and Thing Two? IS SHE THERE NOW?? We just got back from 10 days there last night -- maybe I met her.

I have to send an email to Thing Two in Israel right away with the great news. (By the way, the whole reason she went to Israel this year is because of a boy SHE met at camp.)

I'm so excited! Promise to keep us updated with all the plans. Do you know yet where and when the wedding will be?

Wonderful, May! It's so great to hear about all the CF family members as they are growing up. I too remember your postings about Nathan through the years. My heartfelt congratulations to Nathan and his bride-to-be.

No, he didn't meet her at camp. He met her at school in NY.

It looks like the wedding will be HERE! Since they are both living here now, they decided it would be much easier to plan a wedding locally than to try to plan it long distance in NY. Now, how great is THAT! I'm going to get to help some and have told Rebecca & Nathan multiple times that although I will voice my opinion (can't help it!) that they should do what THEY want and not worry about my feelings or opinions. I know what it's like to have a MIL insisting on her way and believe me, I will NOT be that way.

They haven't set a date yet, hopefully they will within the next couple of weeks. Looking at next spring.

And yes! I look forward to sharing updates here with y'all! What fun!!

I recall meeting Nathan a few years back when we were in San Antonio. Nice young man and I am thrilled that he has found his soul mate and that you love her too!

I'm with the others keep us posted.......we sure have had lots of weddings and babies shared on this forum. They make this place special.
