Need some doggie prayers...

Chabby began having seizures a year ago....they were well controlled with phenobarb.

Well yesterday about noon she began having seizure after seizure....With valium they were coming every 5 to 30 minutes...can't seem to break the cycle. She's at the vet now getting an IV drip...essentially anesthesizing her hoping she will wake up....shake her head and be fine for a few more years. If not, we will ease across the Rainbow Bridgs.

She's 10 years old and seen me through a few rougn times....

All good thoughts appreciated.

Marlene, you have been in my thoughts and prayers also, even though I haven't posted either. Even if you can legally take down the gates, I wouldn't touch them. I would ask the court to order him to take them down himself, since he bought the materials and built them, he should have to go out and take them down. The court should order them to be taken down by a specific date so that if he doesn't comply you can call the police and either force him to do it or face being arrested for failure to comply with a court order. Your lawyer should ask the judge to enter this order, so that you don't have to go out and expose yourselves to this maniac. I had a nasty neighbor years ago who I always just thought was a jerk who come over and stole our concord grapes off the vines. Even when I cought him doing it he laughed and said the former owners said that he could have them and since she had planted th vine, it was her decision. His stupidity left me speechless. We put a lock on our gate, but the vine was close enough to the fence that he could reach across and take the grapes, which he did the following year. Moments after I witnessed him stealing the grapes for the third year in a row, I went over and demanded he give them back to me. He responded that he and his wife had already eaten them. I knew he was lying, but when his wife meekly confirmed the lie, I knew by the way he looked at her and the way that she cowered that she was a battered spouse. Watch your neighbor if he has any family and see how they look at him and how they react when he speaks to them. The signs will be obvious if you're looking for them. A couple we visited once were having a disagreement and he turned around suddenly to look at her and held up his hand. She flinched in such a way that we knew that she was used to being struck by him. Watch what this man does with his hands while he's talking and you will know if he is violent. Cheryl

Thank-you everyone for your kind words. You guys are the best. I am very thankful that the pitbull didnt attack my mom. He was fixed on Alamonso. When mom got Alamonzo away from him she put him over a neighbors fence to protect him. He then tried to go for Ozzy,but mom held him in her arms screaming "GET!" He charged her 4 more times trying to get to Ozzy. Luckily that's when the neighbor came with a baseball bat. It really could have been worse if he had turned on her too. Thank God that was'nt the case. -Smile

My experience is that in most states you have to be seizure free for a certain amount of time before you can drive, but that is usually with epilepsy...I'm not sure if the same rule applies if the seizure has other causes (like a TBI). People who have seizures due to TBI, like those who have epilepsy, cannot drive until they are seizure free for a certain period of time. Cardamom, I wouldn't worry about that right now if I were you. Many, many people are able to take seizure medication and drive. Right now you don't know if he will continue to have seizures or not. And if he does have seizures, you don't know if they can be effectively prevented by medication. Try not to worry about that part of it right now. I know very well how frightened you must be. Take care of yourself as best you can. Remember that you will have a lot to do as he recovers, so take care of yourself while he's in the hospital. And remember that whatever happens, you will be fine and you will be able to do what you need to do. You will get a lot of advice from different people, and you will have to sift through it and find what works for you and your family. My advice would be different from marie-ndcal's. I did ask a lot of questions about things pertaining to rehab, etc. But I didn't ask a lot of questions from everyone I dealt with. For me, I found it was best to narrow my information pipeline. I got so much conflicting information from people, including health care professionals, that after awhile it was more practical to streamline the information flow. And also (and this is different for each individual), there were certain details about his injuries that I just couldn't handle. I could only cope with so much at a time. I never asked about his Glasgow Scale score at all, and I thank God I didn't know or find out until way later down the road. I would have crumpled to the floor like a little baby. Fortunately, my husband's parents are very intelligent and capable health care professionals and looked over his meds, statistics, etc. I noticed that they didn't ask a lot of questions, either, about his medications, etc. That's probably because they knew what should be done and knew he was getting the right care for the situation. If, like marie-ndcal's daughter, you want to or need to ask a lot of questions, don't hesitate to do it. I will say that from the time my husband entered neuro intensive care onward, the doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers were very good about keeping me informed about everything I needed to know. If you feel that you aren't being given enough information, don't hesitate to ask. You will need to be your husband's best advocate, so be as informed as you need to be. Although I didn't ask a lot of questions about my husband's meds, etc., I was very proactive with anything to do with rehab, including making sure he got all of his testing lined up as quick as was reasonable, so that he could be transferred to a rehab hospital as soon as possible. I tried to observe as much as I could there and ask a lot of questions. We were able to support him and help him much better once he came home because of that. Ravencajun is right, every brain case is different. The doctors and nurses will tell you that. You will find what works best for your husband's situation. Take care of yourself and make sure you eat something every day. Whatever you do, remember that you will be fine, and that you will be able to do everything you need to do. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Oh dear, I'm so sad to hear poor Chabby is having a hard time.

Chabby came home about 4 45...very sleepy....slightly responsive and within an hour had another small seizure....
My son and daughter are in town for a HS reunion and son and maybe becky will spend the night....
Kids cooked steaks ( I had eaten nothing but coffee and 2 cookies all day)...
Chabby has had 3 or4 more short seizures....she's coming oput of the day long sedation.....she had had some rice soaked with the juice of fliet mignon....and is now eating dog food.
I am about to give some phenobarb,,,,,take her upstairs to bed and hope she doesn't seize too often.....I am beyond wiped out!
Thanks for the prayers....
Keep them coming.....and add a prayer for wisdom for me....

Linda, I know how much Chabby is a part of your life and daily routine. I do hope that this is just an episode and that she will recover to give puppy smooches soon.
