Please help me with fireplace colors...last minute

Can you all help me decide how to paint this fireplace. We are building, but this is our present fireplace and it will be the same except where the HUGE t.v. and FISH are, there will be built-ins. The builtins on each side will have cabinets on the bottom.

We have lots of natural light with 9 ft. and 13 ft. ceilings. The kitchen, family and dining are all open to each other.

Here is what I have picked so far;

1. SW Pewter Green for Kitchen [2 walls]

2. SW Brevity Brown for Dining Room

3. Sw Latte for Family, hall and Master bedroom

4. SW Navajo White for all ceilings and master bath walls.

5. all trim will be SW Alabaster or SW Creamy

6. Office/bedroom..1 wall the Pewter green, other 3 Latte

I have attached a photo [click to enlarge]and as you can see we now have all Antique white everywhere.

I have been wondering about having the side walls or back of bookcases either the Pewter Green or Brevity Brown with the actual fireplace the Latte. I plan to have a black tile around the fireplace [where we have beige now].

I would love ideas and suggestions because my idea might look tacky..so be as blunt as you want..just help please!

Helen,

I'm not great with these types of choices, and I'm not familiar with those paint samples. BUT, hopefully some others on here will chime in and give you some helpful advice.

Have you posted this question over on the decorating forum also? They are really savvy with these types of dilemmas.

My bath doesn't sound much like yours - I'm using Navaelli Carrara Star form Daltile and dark cabinets - but my cabinet pulls are gorgeous! I ordered Top Knobs- the Crystal Collection #TK128PC and they arrived last week. Pricey but beautiful. Can't wait to see them installed! I also am using Polished Chrome fixtures - I like the blue tone to them and the shine. I have satin nickel in my kitchen and it works and wears well. Can't comment on the rest but good luck!

abekker-from one over analyzer to another (affectionately speaking) - I think perhaps you are over thinking that? Do you expect that the door will be kept open for either the basement or the closet? How often will someone need to get into both spaces at the same time where you would have a conflict? I think the closet opening in would really limit it's functionality and the basement opening in would be a safety issue. I really think it's good as drawn.

I know many here do not like laminate. I had real wood in my kitchen, breakfast area and hall in the last house. I would never recommend real wood in a kitchen if you have dogs and kids. I worked my tail of keeping that floor nice, and it wasn't perfect when I left either. The new house came with laminate in the kitchen, hall and dining area. I have to tell you, I love it. it looks perfect and is easy to keep up. Also we have shower one piece inserts in the bathrooms and linoleum or whatever they use now-decent brand on the bathroom floors. I love these floors. A quick mop, and you are finished-no cleaning grout and resealing grout, no cracked tiles from the kids dropping things. Also, we had a tile leak in our bathroom in our old house. Out beautiful tile in the master was installed incorrectly and leaked between the shower stall and the tub. By the time we found out we had to replace the entire floor, including some joists and sheet rock the entire garage. Naturally, we had to replace the sheet rock in the bathroom and tile again. It was a nightmare. I told my husband I didn't ever want to look at tile again. Also, when we put the house on the market, I spent hours on my hands and knees touching up that floor. Laminate and linoleum are out of style right now, but they were introduced as a modern convenience years ago-these materials are very durable and easy to clean and very convenient.

I have had a soap dispenser for many years at my sink. I don't remember the brand but when we did some renovations 2 1/2 years ago, the same old dispenser went into the new granite counter top and it still works great. I don't have one at our lake home and I miss it. I found out about the Never MT attachments so you can have a large jug of dish soap and not bother always filling the small bottle. You used to be able to get 2 or 3 of them for a better price or free shipping (can't remember exactly). I asked a couple friends if they wanted one while I was ordering mine and they didn't have soap dispensers. But only because they never even knew of them or thought of them. I find I am often using the dish soap to wash my hands when working with raw meat or something. It's antibacterial and I don't even keep hand soap there. It doesn't seem to dry out my hands or anything.

Hi Helen, I will preface the following by saying I had someone help me with my colors, so take this with a grain of salt. I used sherwin williams colors as well, and spent a great amount of time on their website with their color visualizer. While all monitors distort color to some extent, I found it very helpful!

I think that if you painted the niche of your fireplace with the brevity brown, since you are painting the rest of your room latte, that would be a lovely focal point of the room. Both of the colors are from the brown family and definitely would compliment each other. Go play with the color visualizer, I promise it will help you. I couldn't readily find pewter green on the strips, but it's there because when I searched it came up.

Thanks Amy...want to make sure I understand. do you mean the inside of the arch when you say niche? And then have everything else [plus walls behind] Latte?
I just found that SW visualizer last night after I posted. I wish there were a way to paint my photo there, but I did like how the colors I picked looked together in a room.

Yes, inside of the arch is what I was referring to with "niche". Isn't that visualizer the bomb? My kids loved playing with it too. They came up with some seriously scary combos!

helenill, I'm sorry you didn't get many responses on this. I wish I had more time or I'd try and paint your photo for you. If I get a minute (maybe tonight?) I'll try Amy's ideas. I think that sounds nice!

Thanks, you are so sweet. I lucked out though, because the painter didn't get past priming and the ceilings this week.
I tested the other colors I picked on one wall. I liked all of them except the blue...working on another. Anyway I have started doubting my decisions about which walls to put those colors. I think I will post a pic of our floor plan and hopefully get some ideas this weekend.
