Susan Boyle Sings at Age 22 in 1984

I came across this by accident. It's a newly uncovered video of her as a slim young lady singing "The Way We Were" in a Scottish talent contest in a club in 1984.

She was shy and pretty.

Here's the video.

I admit I am one of those fascinated by her ugly duckling/rags to (hopefully) riches story. I hope she does get rich, super famous and finds the love of her life.
She deserves it a lot more than most who have it.
So thanks for posting!

I don't watch any of those talent shows, so when I heard in passing about this woman and how she sang I wanted to know what the big deal was. I saw her video on YouTube where she sang in front of the judges (including the infamous Simon Cowell) and was so sad for her that all the audience judged her on her looks alone and scoffed at how she said she wanted to be a professional singer. And I actually cried when she opened her mouth and started to sing, she has song a strong, mature voice that you don't seem to hear in a world of Britneys and Madonnas. So it was nice to see/hear the non-believers in the crowd have to come back and eat their words. :)

This is enlightening, from a Britain's Got Talent imdb post by stuart-g 8 hours ago (Wed Apr 15 2009 08:18:54) Ignore this User : Report Abuse Reply I was in the audience at Susan's audition in Glasgow back in January and they edited out an awful lot of her audition. Firstly, Amanda burst out laughing when she said she was going to sing. The audience started booing and heckling her before she had even started singing. When she said she was going to sing Les Mis Simon told her to do a different song because he hated that specific song (although she didn't have another backing track). Amanda then mockingly told her to do some Britney Spears because it would suit the audience better. Amanda was laughing and mocking this poor women before she had even performed. When she started singing though, the whole place gave her an ovation instantly. She won the whole venue over. Amanda even mocked her slightly in her final comment. However, she was, once again, edited to make her look like the angelic person she isn't. I told people after that audition that she was going to win the show - I still think she is. 'Nuff Said

I went to the fourth page of these threads just to post this message today! I have really been down in the dumps since my kitty died early Monday morning. This lady lifts my spirits and gives me hope. I have watched it several times since you first posted this, cjd63. Thanks so much for posting this for us. I wish I could email that lady and thank her! Wow....what an amazing list of people.... too many of them no longer with us or active here. It is nice to remember some of their names and their struggles that we shared. Thanks for the memories.

Happy Halloween, we've got candy ready for the little ghosts and goblins tonight. We woke up to 31 degrees with a feel like of 21 this morning. Our first freeze is usually around Thanksgiving. A few of my plants got brought inside but most did not. It's been raining for days and the pots were just too heavy for just me to deal with by myself. I have a lot of new plants from local swaps and sales and my brugmansias had a lot of buds finally. Oh well, I'll see the damage later today. Annie, thanks for hosting a fun month and Congrats to the game winners.

I see her doing one of my favorite Andrew Loyd Webber songs on Youtube. When I was a kid my parents bought the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack and most of it is still in my head.

I so loved rock operas... is anyone doing them anymore? Hopefully I can find my Tommy CD as I need a fix on the way to work. No ALW in my CD collection... gonna have to fix that.
