HI, and I need some Double Oven help!!!

Hi. This is my first post, so please bear with me.

I am redoing my kitchen. Gutting the whole thing, replacing EVERYTHING.

I pretty much have my layout, and I will save my cabinet questions for a post on that section. But, now I have turned my attention to appliances.

I really want to get an integrated fridge, but I want to keep the costs down. Any recommendations.

My main question, and the reason for this post, is that I am considering getting a Capital cook top. My brother has one in his kitchen, and I have been hearing good things about it. Also, they are one of the more cost conscious brands from what I have heard. My mom actually prefers cooking on my brother's Capital cook top over her own Wolf.

I would really like to go with the same company for the cook top and double oven combination. I want something reliable. I cook for my family on a daily basis. I am not a perfectionist, nor am I a professional. I just want something that is good quality, reliable, and will help me produce some decent food.

I have read that Gaggenau is the best, but, I just really can't justify spending that much. I want something on the higher end of the spectrum, but I also don't need the Rolls Royce of cook tops/ovens.

And finally, how is Miele? The appliance store I went to today, had a Miele double oven on sale for $4999 (from $6000), they were selling the floor model, but it had never been used.

Your first step should be to drop this way of thinking. There is no reason to do this unless you are getting rebates or want the "matchy matchy" look. Either way you will be compromising on functionality. No one company makes the best cooktops AND the best wall ovens.

Capital COOKTOP or Capital RANGETOP? They are different. if you go Capital I would recommend the Culinarian RANGEtop so you get high BTU open burners. If you prefer the look of a drop in cooktop versus a slide in range top, I would instead recommend a Bluestar so you can get similar high BTU open burners. Sadly Capital only offers those in ranges and range tops, not cooktops.

Miele has excellent wall ovens. They had some issues a few years back with temperature regulation, but those are fixed. Some other excellent, bang-for-the-buck ovens are Bosch and Electrolux. There are plenty of other nice ovens on the market but I call out those three brands because they consistently get the best reviews here on this forum. And yes as you pointed out Gaggenau has a lot of "bang" if you leave out the "for the buck" part :)

Those two statements conflict. If the latter was all you wanted you would buy a Frigidaire package and be done with it. Clearly you want more than that and you're in the right place for advice. But to get something better than just "adequate" you will need to buy the best in your price range for each appliance, and as I said before those appliances will most likely not come from the same manufacturer.

I'm sorry to say that is kind of an oxymoron. I believe your only options for truly integrated refrigerators are Sub Zero, Thermador/Miele, and Liebherr, none of which are "cheap" brands though certainly some are cheaper than others. You may be able to get a semi integrated look from a different manufacturer though. Do not take my word as final on this - I know next to nothing about integrated refrigerators. Hopefully someone who is knowledgeable will correct me and/or add on.

What I will say though is that if you find yourself unable to squeeze everything into your budget, be sure to prioritize the cooking above all else! When you step up to higher end dishwashers and refrigerators, build quality and looks increase greatly but performance only increases marginally if at all. Cooking is where spending more will get you MUCH better functionality.

DreamDancing & Gma_j...I've been using my GE Profile Trivection DO for several months now and I have no complaints...I think they're great! Yes, there is some heating up of the kitchen, but as Lambic said, the heat has to go somewhere! (If there's an oven that vents to the outside...that would be the one to not heat up the kitchen....is there one?) I've heard some people complain about the preheat time and/or the length of time the fan stays on...but I have not noticed either to be excessive. As a matter of fact, the oven is usually preheated long before I'm ready for it! As to the fan, I've found that if you crack the oven door, the fan stops within a few minutes. Even if you don't, it's only about 15 minutes or so. The best part of my new oven....the Trivection technology...it's great! My baked potatoes are done in less than 30 minutes, mac & cheese in 20 minutes (instead of 60 min), etc.

I had VG in my last house and loved it! It went nicely with my cherry cabinetry and didn't show crumbs or anything at all!! We have since moved and my new neighbor has NVG (slightly lighter than the original VG) on cream cabinets and it looks wonderful with that combo too, so I agree that it's a very versatile granite that looks good with lots of different cabinet colors. Since you might eventually paint your cabinets in the future, I would stick with the NVG which might look better with painted cabinets, especially if you are thinking about cream. Also, the darker the granite, the more dust it shows. At least that has been my experience, so the NVG is a great middle ground and won't be a headache with showing stuff the way a darker granite might. Good luck!

Miele Double Ovens-Need Help

I bought my Miele double ovens as an end of year floor model in Dec. 2005. They have the Perfect Clean finish. They were stored at the store where they were purchased and installed almost a year later. Warranty did not take effect until install. I saved over 2K on the older model . My timer does do 90 minutes and I use it all the time. I have 2 timers and they both go to 90. I have had no issues with the ovens except the thermo device malfunctioned due to continued 500 degree heating for my iron pot bread baking. It was under warranty and they replaced the tiny piece in both ovens even though only the one had gone out. I agreed with this plan and have had no more problems and I have continued the very high heat for hours of baking. I usually do 3 batches of 2 pots , so 6 loaves and this equals 1 hr preheat, baking for 35 min of each batch and then allowing reheat of pots between each bake for a number of hours continuous high heat. I did renew the extended warranty when the original 5 yrs expired. It made sense as the price was less than one service call plus the electronic part. I think it is a good idea to have the warranty on such a high ticket item. I rarely use the Master Chef or Auto settings but when I have they have been just fine. I also keep the ovens clean after each use and have found this to be the most efficient way to maintain the surfaces. They look almost as good as they did when purchased. I like luckyblueeye’s suggestion and agree with Sina - no to the corner cabinet. I wouldn’t do a straight replacement of the cabs to the left of the fridge with the ovens because you don’t have a landing spot for items removed from the oven (especially if someone is sitting at the island!!) Possibly you could do your option 4 but I would need to know the relevant dimensions to say for sure. Same with your option 3. Sina’s other suggestion to live with it for awhile and see what you like/dislike is good!!
