Do all of the oven choices have convection on top and bottom? I would want that. Of your list, my personal choice would be Electrolux. I don't remember reading any problems about temp, but may have missed it. I do remember reading positive reports, and my very trusted appliance salesman raved about the performance when he used one for a weekend at a home show...He'd done the same with many high end brands previous to that, and felt the Electrolux tied one other more expensive oven for the top spot in his experience. (We've dealt with him for years and he hasn't steered us wrong, but has saved us from buying things more expensive than we needed). I'm not saying any of your others are bad choices, because I don't know, but after the research we did for outfitting our new house, the Electrolux would be the one I'd feel best about.

That said, I do prefer knob controls, so ranked Monogram ZET2's and F&P higher on our list than the Electrolux...In the end, Fisher & Paykel won when I found one from an Ebay seller (legit appliance store) for $2100.

Thanks for the feedback. The Fisher & Paykel is definitely a nice oven -- love the skinny knobs! Unfortunately, the lowest I can find it for is about $3500.

It's tempting, but it's a case of "price creeping". You start off looking for ovens in the $2000 range. Then you see something for $2500 and you say, "it's only $500 more". So you become comfortable with the $2500 price range. Then you see something for $3000 and you say "it's only $500 more". And the cycle continues...

It sounds like you have to manually calibrate the temperature setting. And even then, it takes at least 30 minutes to fully pre-heat the oven(?) Ouch.

We're in the exact same situation; it's really stressing me out. Had narrowed down to Electrolux and KA. Then a very experienced appliance man told me that Electrolux (made by Frigidaire) and FDaire are junk. Then read the same thread as you about temp probs.

So, the KA it is. Then I got a hold of the thread still on the most current page "Problems With Kitchenaid Oven Cleaning?" or something like that. It's VERY scary.

So, now we're going with the Profile, though, like you said, it's not as beautiful.

Robchronos...good choices. Again, did you consider the Monogram ZET2? Just interested if you did, why you are not looking at them now. I went from the Miele to Dacor to KA to Electrolux to Mono. Still deciding between Electro and Mono and am leaning towards Mono because of what I have read on this Forum.

We never really considered the Monogram because they're a little out of our price range. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like they start at around $3500?

What do you do with all the "don't buy GE products" comments? I am also shopping ovens (though still have not figured out whether to get doubles plus a separate MW or a single plus the Advantium, plus a warming drawer -- have you all considered the Advantium?).

On ovens, I went from GE Mono to Miele to Dacor and back to Miele. That's my current position, but I'm not totally convinced, so I keep reading these threads . . . .

starfish...from what I have read on GW, seems like people like the mono dbl ovens, that's why I disregarded the "don't buy GE". Got the feeling that was referring to other products, but I don't know...I am so confused!

I wish there were a consensus, but every single brand out there has naysayers. I guess you look for one that has fewer negative reports. Consumer Reports and JD Power ranks GE as among the most reliable, but it's hard to know how much stock to put into those ratings.

Bosch has a pretty nice promo going right now that would save us $800 if we went with a Bosch oven (in combination with our other appliances). Unfortunately, it ends May 31 and we won't be installing the appliances until the fall. I wonder how often these promos run.

On the other hand, our appliance guy says that prices are going up this summer due to increased gas costs. What to do, what to do...

Two knowledgeable appliance guys I've spoken with in the last week -- at two different places -- both told me, unequivocally, not to get GE Mon. ovens. Mind you, the others I was looking at were pricier, so maybe that's what they were trying to steer me toward, but they basically told me that the GEMs were definitely a level below the others -- in terms of even heating, accuracy of temperature, fancy/auto cooking methods, broiling ability, etc. I was bummed, b/c I do like those racks. Also, I've had GE Profile ovens for 9 years and they've been fine. Unfortunately, these guys were both so similarly adamant that I crossed GEM off my list.

So based on reported problems, I guess I have to cross Electrolux, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Whirlpool and GE off my list. That leaves Bosch and Thermadore which aren't without their own reports of problems. To confuse things further, Consumer Reports lists a Thermadore as the top wall oven, but the Thermadore brand as the least reliable.

Anyone have experience with the Kenmore Elite or Kenmore Pro double ovens? I assume they're rebranded ovens from another manufacturer. Anyone know who the original manufacturer is?

I have to tell you that 2 appliance guys told me unequivocally to avoid Bosch wall ovens. I tell you this only because I think you really have to take what the appliance salesmen tell you with a huge grain of salt. After reading this forum, I found that often I knew quite a lot more than they did about the appliance in question. I ended up with a Monogram oven. I've only had it for 4 months, so can't answer based on any longevity, but so far it has been great. There have been no performance issues at all with heating etc. The fan is super quiet.
Worst appliance I've ever owned by far was a Dacor duel fuel range, so I wouldn't even look at their ovens. Maybe they've changed, but I wasn't willing to give them a second chance.

Houscrzy, after "starfish" response and what they heard form their appliance guy about staying away from the Mono, I am so confused! I guess your appliance guy didn't tell you to stay away from GE Mono. and I am glad you are happy so far, that's all anyone wants. Again, you can't please all the people all the time. I just want to make sure I don't get a lemon.

Love our electrolux icons. work great, look great, clean great. I have had guests who have actually taken photos of the ovens. the slides are the best i have ever seen in an oven.

Yes, I am deciding between the GE Monogram and Electrolux, mainly because of the glide racks...what a great feature! But, I have read conflicting things about Electrolux; how many racks are full, gliding racks. One place told me 1 and another said 2. GE Mono has 3. Thanks.

We just installed the GE Profile Trivection/Convection Double Ovens (Trivection on top, convection on the bottom).

We haven't used them yet so I can't tell you how they will work out. However, we had a GE Profile convection range for over 13 years with no problems. Everything heated/cooked evenly, the convection worked well (even though it wasn't "true convection"), and it looked almost like new when we finally bid it goodbye...it's now being used by a family in our church who said it's still going strong w/no problems and they love it as well!

My experience w/GE is to stay away from anything that has a lot of moving parts (DW, washing machine, dryer). Their cooking appliances, though, seem to be just fine. No, they're not Viking or Bluestar or Wolf or Miele, etc., but they've worked for me. I cook b/c I have to eat and sometimes I enjoy it (especially baking), but it's not my life.

As to looks, I actually prefer the look of the Profile over the Monogram...to me, Monograms look flimsy & cheap...I much prefer the nicely curved handles that don't look like they're going to bend if I pull too hard on them.

I think others must feel the same way since the newer Monograms have beefier handles and don't look nearly as flimsy.

It wasn't about price, at least not at first; as a matter of fact I originally had planned for a Trivection single oven + Miele MasterChef Single Oven...much pricer than the Trivection/convection double oven whether Profile or Monogram! [Eventually cost did rear its ugly head and we had to decide on either a Miele Convection DO or GE Profile/Monogram Trivection DO...and finally decided on the GE b/c of the Trivection technology.]

BTW....other than price, the only 2 differences b/w the Monogram and the Profile are the look and the fact that Monogram still comes w/a free broiler pan but Profile no longer does. When I was looking for appliances I talked w/several people in various departments at GE and GE Monogram and they all agreed the "insides" were identical and the only differences are the ones I just stated.

If looks are important to you and you prefer the Monogram...go ahead and get the Monogram! I think you'll be pleased with either one.

Does the Profile have the same great sliding racks?

FWIW, the Kenmore Elite/Pro ovens are manufactured by Frigidaire. I didn't love either of them when I saw them in person.

I talked to an appliance guy who carries both Bosch and Electrolux (plus pricier brands like Wolf, Miele, etc.) I asked him to compare the Bosch and Electrolux ovens. He likes the racks on the Electrolux. Unlike many others, ALL of the racks are smooth gliding. And he liked the all-glass door on the Electrolux, though it IS completely open at the bottom so dust/spills can accumulate between the glass panes.

As for reliability & temperature accuracy, he didn't say anything bad about the Electrolux, just that it hasn't been out long enough to establish a track record one way or the other. On the other hand, he said the Bosch (and Thermadore) are based on a 7 year old design and that they've always been solid performers.

What's the difference between the Icon and regular ovens?

Just my $.02... an appilance guy at Expo knew I wasn't buying and just checking out appliances in person. I told him my appliance choices and Monogram wall oven was one of them. He told me it's the best bang for the buck out there.

Felt the need to chime in here since i was the OP about the temp issue with the electrolux icon

i really do like this unit and have adjusted to cooking knowing that the pre-heat time is not enough to get to the desired temp, takes longer but does get there. is it lengthy, yes, in my mind it is

but i do still like it

one other drawback is that it does not accomodate full size pizza boxes

we are a family that eats pizza almost every Friday night of the year and can't keep the boxes in the oven to stay warm; that is now its biggest drawback

one other thing that i am unsure of at this time is the circulating fan which does blow out warm air once the unit is heated up; since it is still pretty cool here it hasn't mattered but if it were summer and no A/C, that could become a complaint for some

i don't do alot of oven cooking in the summer anyways and we do have CAC, but it would be a waste of energy for the two to compete

maybe others could comment on this issue

Good Luck, Picking appliances was pretty stressful for me and since my fridge has been replaced and other appliance related issues worked out, i'm finally ok with the selections

Like I have said before, no one is completely happy with one brand but, I am going to get the Monogram ZET2's. Now, mind you I still have a month or 2 to change my mind as our project keeps being moved back, but today, that's the choice :) Thanks everyone for your help and patience. Judy...sorry I took so long to respond. No, the Profile does not have the full extension glides. But, for the Trivection, neither does Monogram.

Earlier I had decided, decided to go with the Profile. Well, I did some shopping on ebay and now have on-site our new Bosch 2ble oven. (Almost 1/2 price, and new with warranty). Also finally ordered a DCS 36" gas cooktop with pop-up vent. I feel like a new woman!

Woo hoo!! Hope everyone else gets things nailed down. I can't believe how stressful that was.

For all the various posts about wall-ovens causing their kitchens to heat up...

What did you expect? Fan or no fan, the heat has to go somewhere. There might be a 'perceived' difference between an oven that blows hot air out a vent and one which doesn't, but the net result is your kitchen will heat up when you turn on the oven.

Remodelfla, I have been told the GE monogram is the best bang for the buck as well. I had decided on the Monogram DO when I tried to fit a steam oven into the design. Any thoughts on convection versus steam, like the Miele or Gaggenau? As the second oven or third?

DreamDancing & Gma_j...I've been using my GE Profile Trivection DO for several months now and I have no complaints...I think they're great! Yes, there is some heating up of the kitchen, but as Lambic said, the heat has to go somewhere! (If there's an oven that vents to the outside...that would be the one to not heat up the kitchen....is there one?)

I've heard some people complain about the preheat time and/or the length of time the fan stays on...but I have not noticed either to be excessive. As a matter of fact, the oven is usually preheated long before I'm ready for it!

As to the fan, I've found that if you crack the oven door, the fan stops within a few minutes. Even if you don't, it's only about 15 minutes or so.

The best part of my new oven....the Trivection technology...it's great! My baked potatoes are done in less than 30 minutes, mac & cheese in 20 minutes (instead of 60 min), etc.
