Wow! you are in a pickle for sure! Even if you could afford a professional cleaner, doubt they would take the job. Is your roommate handicapped or just does not try to aim? The person should accept the fact he really needs to "sit" to use the toilet. If your roommate is not handicapped, make him remove the carpet and padding. Clean the area, etc. In my opinion, plan on being booted out of the apt. when the landlord sees this. The only way I see that it can be cleaned is to rip out the carpet and padding (carpet should never be next to a toilet), clean the floor and wall. Go to a pet store and buy the enzyme that kills urine odor and clean the area. You really need the enzyme. Bleach works well for urine odor, soak everything with it and know that it will bleach whatever it comes into contact with. Part of the sheet rock wall may need to be removed too, especially if urine has soaked through the paint into the sheet rock. The urine no doubt has soaked through the carpet into the padding and into the flooring beneath. Removing carpet may not be enough, most likely will need to remove sub-flooring too and replace with new sub-flooring and new vinyl tile. Do not do anything to the sub-flooring without checking with the landlord first or you will be in big, big trouble. Is there a way you can find another roommate that does not have this kind of problem? Reason I ask is that regardless of how clean you get the area, it will be in same condition shortly here or in another apt. Good luck.

Busybee ... Thank you, I'll check that out. I can't believe I forgot my fan deck today. I carry that thing with me everywhere these days. Caminnc, I did cut the wall color 50% for the ceiling, but now that I'll be changing the wall color we'll have to see how the ceiling looks.

After coming back to this thread a second time, I am wondering if she keeps giving these gifts because she wants something to do? It could give her a focus. I used to work with someone who gave his mother the "job" of buying socks for the whole family. She learned what everyone liked and the family appreciated not having to shop for this one item. I am wondering too, if her own house is filled with odd purchases? It is mind boggling. My husband has an aunt that gives the cheapest and most inappropriate gifts. They are wealthy people! Once, she explained that she often buys things and saves them for that special occasion. That would be fine, however how do you justify a half painted ceramic piece that was from a pottery class, a butterfly pin that is rusty on the back, a wallet or scarf that is from 30 years ago? Or my favorite a huge,and I mean huge ceramic piggy bank that she gave to my then two year old? Since we don't see her often, all of it went into the trash. What is interesting is that this aunt honestly believes she is giving an appropriate gift.

Yes, same place (except when my five year old showers and then there is one small place outside of the shower that puddles very slightly--no one else splashes that much). And yes I am going to let my GC replace just that tile. I hear everyone saying it's a tear out because kerdi membrane tears if you try to replace just one tile. But schluter specifically allows this kind of repair and my GC described his plan just as the schluter website does. So I don't think I have any justification for demanding a tear out based on resetting one tile. I do understand some are basing their tear out recommendations on the overall slope and/or their guesses of the materials used. And I don't mean to denigrate their recommendations, but we have decided to accept this as-is assuming the repair is successful.
