Fabric sconce shade...has anyone used one in a bathroom?
Comments (3)My only concern with a fabric sconce is if you use aerosol hair products dust will adhere to the fabric and make them look shabby rather quickly. Obviously people put fabric in bathrooms - but most of it is easily washable or dry cleanable like a shower curtain or window treatment. Even in the best locations, lampshades are a bugger to clean properly. It looks like that is not a shade that would be easily replaced size wise. We are planning to use a chandelier with cream drum shades in our shower area, but those won't be exposed to hairspray and they are easily replaced if they get shabby looking....See MoreHas anyone ever floated a bathroom vanity on all three sides?
Comments (20)Thank you all for your feedback...it's getting closer to reality. Plumber was here this week so I believe we have resolution on the sink plumbing and cabinet. Lucy132, we are still working on that. As of now, no resolution! One option for us would be the wall that the door is on (by the sink). We have to resolve hand towels too. If we could have moved the door, we would and that would have helped but no such luck :( we did move the cabinet on the wall over the toilet so there is opportunity there but you'd still have to stage your towel by the sink or track water over floor. There are shower door options with towel bars but we opted against that....See MoreBathroom renovation design regrets?
Comments (61)Have the finishes match all the other finishes, (door knobs, faucets, etc) in your home. Consistency. A constant temperature valve with one, two or three diverter valves -- one for the shower hear, one for the rain head, one for the second shower hear if you have a second one -- is the way to go. Check if an instantaneous "instant" hot water heater for only the shower, or sink, or both is feasible. Any good tile guy will tell you this: Use real tile, not rock, not marble, not glazed stone, polished cement or whatever other variation of tile the national/regional chain tile stores stock. The national/regional chain tile stores are OK for getting ideas, but ask your tile guy his go to tile supplier, and go there and look. Chances are the place will not be glamorous or have luxurious displays, but there are reasons experienced tradesmen patronize the place, good quality raw materials, reasonable prices, varied selection, etc. The overall, final look is all about pulling together patterns, colors, lines, shapes and finishes in a bathroom. Light, natural or otherwise, fits into that list somewhere also. If you're good at this then ok, else consult a professional architect....See MoreBathroom Reveal! Comments (17)Thanks! It was done fresh over backerboard. We used topciment. It took a lot more layers and labor than I expected and the plaster specialist who did it underestimated his cost so thay was disappointing. It did turn out nice though and we really wanted the no grout look. I really recommend getting color samples first and also using someone who knows about waterproofing etc. Our person was not experienced as there weren’t a lot of options in our area and that was rough. Here’s a closer up pic of guest bath and the tun ans splashback of my primary bath tub which we sid a little lighter. i’ll post that bathroom when it’s done!...See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
