My new monitor--did I make a mistake?

After months of searching, I have a new monitor.

HP LP2065. It is 20" and not widescreen. I think it is a discontinued model.

It is brand new and I bought it from the computer tech man who comes to my home office to fix things. He has one and loves it. He bought this at a good price and is selling it to me at much lower than retail, tho it does seem to be discontinued so really is not available.

It is not widescreen and I noticed at Best Buy that everything is widescreen. Also, I had wanted 22" and this is smaller but seems big enough.

The tech said he'd take it back if I don't like it.

So--did I make a mistake? What is the advantage of widescreen? I use my computer largely for word processing and internet research. No games or movies.

Is the size too small? Should I get a widescreen? What do you think of this model? Thanks.

Ginny,

Just remember bigger is not always better. I have found that the larger the monitor presentation the more head movement, rather than eye movement is required. To eliminate/reduce this movement the user has to sit farther from the screen.

I got a new monitor 20" widescreen about 2 months ago and I love it. You can see more but its up to you what you like.

After a night of soul-searching, I took it apart and turned the whole thing 90 degrees yesterday. There were a couple of benefits... Snow will now pile up along the solid side. The east side will now have full morning sun to warm up. And I can always put some shade cloth on the west side if some afternoon shade is needed. Also, a couple of things that hadn't lined up exactly the way I wanted worked better going this direction. It was a PITA, but I'm glad it's done. :-) Cheers, Michelle

It's pouting, but not dead. It will now need some shade and water to get through the trauma of the move. Can you build a little shelter over it? Yes, it would have been better to wait until the fall, but what's done is done. Don't worry too much. In an emergency situation, I once had to move peonies in the spring and they did fine. A friend told me to put a chair over them (they were small) to give them some shade during their recovery period. Make sure you didn't replant them too deeply (the eyes no more than 2" deep). Sometimes they just take a couple of years to bloom. Patience. They're worth the wait. Enjoy! Judye

Gorgeous aloes Stush, I really like that big one on the left in your 2nd pic, what a beauty! I have A. saponaria but haven't seen a variegated one, I'm going to check out your other aloe pics on C&S forum. I have a variegated A. arborescens, used to have variegated A. eru but think I've lost it. Have to check. I have eru species, maybe the variegated reverted. I think eru is aka camperi. I'll post some pics of a NOID large aloe , maybe you'll recognize it. Actually have several with no names. I have A. cameronii, rupestris with collection data, amudatensis, guillaumetii, jucunda, juvenna, lutescens, vaombe, sinkatana in yellow and red flowered forms. I feel your pain about your faux wood floors. Unfortunately, I don't have a choice, I am an apartment dweller. 🫤 When they first put them in, I was thrilled, they seemed so "cool," "modern," and neutral (yep, in that fugly "greige" that's so popular now for some strange reason). Shortly thereafter, I discovered the awful truth: they're cold... in look, feel, and insulating properties (I'm in the Midwest). They're very hard and uncomfortable to walk on without shoes or squishy slippers (did they even put an underlayment down first?), they make me sound like an elephant when I walk on them, they have a weird rough "grit" to them that I can't seem to get rid of (is it because they're new?); there's no shine, they always look dirty (probably because they ARE); and every drop of water leaves a mark. It seems I'm constantly sweeping, Swiffering, wiping, vacuuming...and my apartment always has that weird "new car" smell from either the glue or the plastic itself (yay, health hazards). Not only that, but the installers were very haphazard: there are many areas of the floor that sound literally hollow when I walk over them. I then made the mistake of seeing the type of flooring that my next door neighbor has. Because her apartment is older, she has the "older" style of faux flooring: warm, gorgeous, honey colored, and inviting. It was such a marked difference from what I have, I was shocked...and very jealous. 😭 Even my former apt in another state had darker "wood" floors, but they were fabulous: soft underfoot, didn't show water or stains, easy to clean. But not these. So I'm stuck with these until I happen to move again....and since I just moved in, that will be awhile. Sigh. REAL WOOD RULES!

As DA wisely notes, bigger need not be better. I have a 22 inch screen and love it. However I do not allow too much text type content to use full screen as that is a long way across. I do find it useful to have 2 windows open side by side at times. Plus I have a gadget bar down the right side so mostly use 20 inches of screen

If you have a 20 inch 5 x 4 monitor you have much more than screen if you had a 16 x 9 widescreen. This is because your monitor is so much higher, the measurement is taken diagonally. We all thought this widescreen thing was fantastic but we did lose something into the bargain.The biggest gain of course was LCD and doing away with those huge CRT monitors.

I much prefer not to have a widescreen monitor and wish they were more available but it is getting very hard to find anything but widescreen. I just prefer the screen aspect of regular over widescreen

no one can tell you if you made a mistake you have to determine what you like and are happy with, if the monitor is clear and works well then that is what matters.

Think for me the only advantage of wide screen is viewing streaming movies from the likes of hulu or where ever.
I much prefer the taller screen for regular computer reading. See more lines most everywhere that doesnt have tons of sidebar advertising, less scrolling.

Thanks for the advice and input. I feel better that I didn't make a terrible mistake. I do prefer these proportions to a widescreen--more like a printed page.
