I would love a print of this photo. Know absolutely nothing about Flickr. Is it possible to purchase anything - or contact the photographer? If so, how? We collect bearded Bellarmine/Bartmann jugs like the shards shown in the bottom left of the photo. Ours are c. 1550-1599 & I wish they could talk! These sturdy utilitarian jugs were shipped all around the world and held everything from liquor to mercury. We want to hang a print of this photo over our collection. It's perfect and we've never seen anything like it before. I stumbled across the picture researching a particular potter of the period and this photographer owns one of his pieces. That piece was used in a different photo (flower vase in niche) and when I clicked to look at more of the portfolio up came this wonderful picture. Anybody able to give me instructions on how Flickr works? Thanks.

Never mind - I've tracked him down outside Flickr. Hmmm, he's pretty well known. His work is likely out of my league but I've emailed him anyway. One does not get what one does not ask for, right? ;)

Nope, if you don't ask, you don't get! Well, some people seem to have everything land in their lap, but not me. I like that photo very much. Looks like the vase to the right of the puppy is about to become shards, too.

Again, thanks to all for your input. It is greatly appreciated while I work out these details! I'm guessing now...that once you make particular pix viewable to the public, then they are public no matter what album they are in. Doesn't seem right, but maybe I'll figure out something else later. Thanks, Wes. Glad the pix are crisp. I don't like having the writing on the pix either, but have been forced in that direction (by this site's owners- TOS) & folks who have decided they can lift my pix without asking. Just trying to make it a tad more difficult to remove my name. I'm sure there are ways around it. At least I don't put name right across the middle, like proofs. Not sure what you mean about a tripod (do you see one?)...but no, I don't use one (should, but haven't gotten there yet). Christopher, I also use Picasa. I like it, but use it for things other than forums. While I'm here & thinking about it, trying a Picasa pic, to see if it works. Each online site has its pros & cons. I started with Photobucket...no, I take that back. I started with Photopoint! Anyone recall using that one? It went bankrupt (right after collecting my membership fee)! I paid WAY too much moola to get 16 CDs of pix back from the company that took over (Sony ImageStation??)! That was back when you had to scan all your pix into your computer! Sorry, I digress! Karen, not sure if it matters about Photobucket or Yahoo. I think those & Google are interconnected now. At least, with Flickr, I know I have to make the pic viewable by the public to be seen here by all, regardless of belonging to any particular online photo-hosting site. Thanks on the Aloe! Howard, I was thinking how to eliminate yearly fees I pay. Flickr offered a terabyte of space free, with higher resolution. I think I just figured out it won't make much difference to me having a free acct with Photobucket, so I will probably keep it. I don't upload high res pix there anyway. Will have 2GB of space free (have 22GB now that I don't use). All this exercise to figure out I need do NOTHING! Ha! I like to be able to do batch thumbnails from PB. Not sure that is available at any others. I was concerned about privacy issues. I still believe people can get your pix from Flickr via Google. At the site they can't, but there are other ways. I have found my pix on the web, on other peep's sites/blogs. Not nice! This link ~same as one below, should take you to our latest succulents ~of a different fare (OT -so I won't mind if you guys aren't interested-just some things keeping me busy these days). I've got to stop. This is getting quite long-winded! Thanks for your help!! http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFVBKXm Here is a link that might be useful: Succulent babes -horsey kind

Yes, I did, redshirt, but this is a VERY young tree, and all kinds of other, more common things can cause fruit to be misshapen. If it was HLB, you'd see very sorry looking leaves, especially on the branch where this fruit was produced. This little lemon tree looks nice and green :-) The thickness of the skin can be caused by other factors, as can be the odd shape. Thick rind is most often caused by too much nitrogen and/or too little phosphorus, which is actually caused by the over abundance of nitrogen, which can cause a lower uptake of phosphorus. I've included a nice fertilizing schedule & chart from Arizona, which is still very applicable for those of us in warmer areas of the Western US, including S. California. Even for me close to the coast. This is for in-ground citrus, and there will be some regional variability to the application timing, and the amount of nitrogen (more for hotter areas, less for cooler areas in general), as well as some adjustments for micronutrients that might be low in your particular area, but overall, I think this chart is very easy to understand. And, this doesn't look like Ponderosa lemon to me, tropical. They are really, really huge. And they have a rather unique obovoid (pear) shape and are pale yellow. Eurekas can have thick, lumpy rinds, too. As can many Italian lemons. My Eureka lemons have lumpy thicker skin. Lemons of all sorts can stay on the tree and actually keep well, not just the Ponderosa. I even leave my Meyer lemons on the tree longish, since my tree is so prolific, I just can't squeeze enough juice fast enough, even freezing it. Thanks Jay, He has wanted to be a Marine since he was very young. When he was in the 4th grade and had to write the story of his life, he wrote that he wanted to be a Marine when he grew up. Now THAT is sticking to the plan! LOL The first 3 weeks were the hardest for him because he wasn't allowed to use his contacts and his glasses are so strong that they had to send them off base to be made. So, all he could see was a blur when they were showing him stuff that he had to learn like hand to hand combat, etc. Betty

I'm excited. Just purchased the picture in a lambda print, signed, limited edition of 6! He responded overnight. What serendipity.

I'm having trouble with my picture. :(

The photographer is living in Australia and his work is sold at European galleries. Somehow, I managed to find his home email and that's where I contacted him.

We've had fun back/forth email chats about our shared love of early German stoneware even exchanging stoneware pictures. Needless to say, my pictures are an embarrassment compared to his. :(

He gave me his bank info stuff and home address. I'm supposed to wire the money to him. Should be easy. It isn't. My hick local bank does not know how to do international wires. Showing their ignorance, they are insisting on a routing number and only the US uses those. DH is over at the bank now trying again. If they still can't figure it out he's going to cart cash over to a multi-national bank and try again. Of course, since we don't have accounts at that multi-national they will charge us an arm/leg for the international wire transfer. I'm running out of time. The picture has been sent to the photographer's lab and will be ready for shipment on Tuesday (Monday night here). :(

Can't believe I may not get my picture because my little bank can't figure out how to transfer funds. Remember when life used to be easy!

Pam,

About that vase of roses in Puppy photo...it's particularly appropriate for the destruction a puppy can accomplish in a heartbeat. :)

"Flowers, and in particular roses, are a symbol of the decay that is inevitable.

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
Old time is still a-flying
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying."

Robert Herrick 1591 - 1674."

The symbolism in Kevin's work is fun & brain teasing. He models his photography after the Dutch masters still-life. I've been busy reading and dragging out my Art History books from art school. I'm hooked.

Here's another one of his photos...

What an ordeal this endeavor has been but finally the photo is hung and I love it! My framer runs for cover when he sees me but, IMO, he should be thanking me because now he knows how to do something new. :) This photo was a first-class b*t*h to frame 'cause of the lambda print. It's taken two months just to get it framed but it's the perfect backdrop for our collection of Bellarmine jugs. I'm so glad I didn't just blow it off when I first saw the photo.
