Houston Get Together May 9

A few years back shortly after my kitchen remodel was complete, I hosted a Houston get together. We've had several Houston gatherings since then and some of us have become friends and get together regularly.

Since we met through the forum (kitchen forum originally) we like to post gatherings here occasionally, just to see if we can reel in more fun folks for friendship! (Like my alliteration there?)

Also, let me clarify that in this case, Greater Houston includes such far away spots as Lake Charles (hey riverrat!) and La Grange!

So, if you can manage to get to Houston for lunch on Saturday, May 9, email me through gardenweb and I'll give you more details. Hope to see you then!

I should would like to visit you again, you are a great hostess. And, it was your remodeled floors that made me do a 180 from wood to tile floors.

I can't believe I just saw this! Let me get schedules together with hubby and see what's going on. I would love to go. I'll e-mail you later on today.

To anyone out there that may be on the fence about meeting us. We really are not ax murderers and would love to have more in the group. We have a great time and May is a wonderful, fun hostess with the mostess.

Thanks for posting the pix Karen! It was great, as always, getting together with old friends and new. Yes, Annie, we did nothing but eat and talk. And laugh of course. What could be better than that? The food was delicious and the company delightful. And a good time was had by all. I'm looking forward to the next get together in San Antonio when Sharon and Clive breeze through. What fun!!!

Don't you think that you'd like to invest in your existing trees? It might be appropriate to bring in two or three ISA Certified Arborists to have a quick look at the condition of your trees and offer estimates for suggested work. Live oaks can respond to something as little as a substantial mulch application! An educated professional will take into account the history of the site, soil conditions, maintenance, etc. I lived in live oak territory long enough to know that you don't have to sit idly by as they decline. I live in North Beaumont without any houses next to me. On cold, still morning it is 5 degrees colder on this side of Beaumont than my office on the south side of Beaumont, 8 miles away. That is driving down the highway. It will vary even more if the area is surrounded by houses. Many people plant their citrus on the south side of a building to give them more cold tolerance. Even if the building is not heated it seems to help. I believe it was 2011 when the top of the soil froze enough you could walk on wet ground without breaking through. I have lived here 16 years and that was the only year that has happened. According to old timers, we seem to get that kind of cold weather every 20 years, enough people are leery about putting in orchards.

Oh! Yeah, I think so...fingers crossed. I haven't stared too closely at the leaves lately, but I don't see any glaring yellow splotches like I did with that first group -- it was on the P. incarnata. The plant(s) is/are thriving right now; and if I had to start plucking leaves off, it'd be an overwhelming task. I'm certain the Turk's Cap plant I received from my neighborhood friend's yard was affected by this same virus, as it had the telltale splotchiness AND horribly deformed, crinkled leaves -- and it just got worse and worse, so I yanked it.

Wheeee!!! I sure hope you can make it!!

My home email is down till at least wednesday so if you email me through Gweb don't be surprised if you don't get an answer. I promise to reply to all emails as soon as comcast gets me back up!
