Bring up the TASK Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and end the FF process.

yes you will need to end task in your task manager for firefox, this happens sometimes with firefox. What you do not want to do is create a new profile in those cases which sometimes it will ask if you want to do that.
IF you keep having the problem you might want to remove firefox from add remove and then do a re-install.
It is possible that your profile got corrupted.

I did the Task Manager but FF was not showing.

If I go to do an uninstall of the FF program and it says that FF must be closed should I go ahead and try to uninstall it anyway?

I would go ahead and try the uninstall. The worst that could happen is that the uninstall fails. If it fails, you might need a better uninstall program. Revo is spoken of highly here, but I've never used it. If you get any error messages during the uninstall, let us know what they are.

I tried to do the uninstall but it was a no go. It said to close FF to uninstall and will not go any further. I have not used one of the program uninstaller such as Revo. Would it be hard/complicated to do?

I'll have to get back to this tomorrow (hopefully), I had a minor accident in my kitchen and i'm not feeling well.

Revo is very easy to use. I use it frequently because I like the idea of removing all traces of a program, which control panel does not do. Google Revo Uninstaller and download and install it. When you open the program, it has an alphabetical list of all programs on your computer. Click the program you wish to uninstall and then click Uninstall at the top of the page. I use the "moderate" setting.

Power outages do play havoc with computers, especially if your surge protector is not a very good one. With that sort of thing, I believe you get what you pay for.

how did you look for it in task manager? open task manager then clcik on the processes tab, scroll through and look for firefox.exe in the list if you find it select it then use the end process button.

If it says firefox is running then it is showing somewhere in your task manager.

Raven, thanks, I was looking only on the application page of the Task Mgr., I did find it on the processes and ended it and now FF will open but I have lost all my settings.

I still have a lot of applications on the desktop that will not open and I don't recognize how they are listed in the task manager to try and close them and see if they will reopen.

Would it be advisable to try another restore to try and pick up where every thing was working ok.

Yes do a System restore, you are having a lot of issues since the power fail. A System Restore may clear some issues up.

I did another system restore, this time I went further back into last month. All seems to be right, I got all my settings back and all the icons on the desktop will open, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I paid about $50 for this surge protector, thought that I would be safe, but I guess not. As soon as I can manage it I'll get the UPS protector.

l learned more new things, The task manager thing that Raven told me to find, UPS surge protector, and about the Revo Uninstaller.

remember that not just the pc has to be plugged into a surge protector, the router. modem, and telephone line if one is used or the cable itself if cable is used, the one I have has places to plug in a phone line, cable line, all the stuff that has to get plugged in to make the pc work, which is nice so when the weather gets bad I only have one switch to hit and one plug to unplug from the wall. Phone lines /dsl lines are great conductors for lightening.
You can have a whole house surge protector added right at your service panel where your breakers are which is really nice.
