Texas Get Together

We had been talking about having a TX get-together and we have to decided to time it with Sharon's visit to San Antonio. Yay!

So, here are the plans as they stand now. We'd love for anyone to join us. It's a holiday weekend, so you'd have more travel time!

Saturday, May 23rd:

Dinner hosted by Brenda and family

Sunday, May 24th:

Breakfast at The Guenter House (downtown)

Late Lunch at Rosario's 2:00 p.m.

Working on getting Water 2 Wine to open and having appetizers catered in www.sanantonio.water2wine.us

Or if any interest in SIL doing a Thai cooking lesson in lieu of.

Monday, May 25th:

Breakfast at Mi Tierras www.mitierracafe.com and

Market Square

The main focal point of the weekend, will be the late lunch on Sunday with Sharon and Clive at Rosarios. The remaining things are for all or 1, or there may be some other things everyone would like to do in place of what has been discussed. It's pretty open and we are very flexible here.

For anyone wanting to stay in SA and since it is Memorial Weekend, downtown may be full, but actually travel has been lighter the last month or so here in SA. There is a new Comfort Inn not far from my home as I live out near Sea World. There are a couple of nice RV parks not far, Blazing Star on 1604 and Tejas RV on Potranco as well.

Oh, and we won't be succeeding from the States by then either (d.a. governor, if you happened to catch his d.a. statement). So, you should be free to travel in and out of here without a problem....lol.

Brenda, Fantastic itinerary that you have proposed! My preference is Thai cooking lesson in lieu of. Oh, that's right, I don't get a vote but I sure wish I did. I'm eager to hear the details of the get together.

That does sound tense. Sorry it was a bad experience for you. I've seen a lot of soldier with rifles and bayonets in my travels in Latin America, but they never made me tense, for some reason. When I crossed the border between Belize and Guatemala, they were having a war over a border dispute, and there were thousands of soldiers at the border. I grew up 25 miles east of Fort Hood (the largest military base in the world, according to them), and so I was used to seeings lots of soldiers growing up and never thought much about it. When I traveled through Chiapas and Oaxaca while they were having guerrilla warfare, I merely thought that I was close to a military post. I thought the same thing when hordes of soldiers would board the train from Laredo to Mexico City near San Luis PotosÃ. I still think that SLP probably has a military base nearby. You may have seen a naval base in Corpus Christi as well. The last time I saw a large military presence was in 1992 during the Rodney King riots when L.A. was under martial law. That was scary because I had nowhere to go. I looked up Nuevo Progresso, and it looks like a nice place to visit - much smaller and easier to navigate than Reynosa or Matamoros. It looks like you had rather warm weather with possibly a couple of cold days in the 60s. My parents said it had been in the 80s where they are. I'll look forward to seeing your pictures! The first KTer I met was Martha from Tyler (who now posts at the Coffee Shop & lives in Whitehouse.) Then I went to Waco to Jaybird's & met Nita, Jerri & Gabby. Jaybird took us to a restaurant in Crawford where we took our pictures with "President Bush." Annie and John Pence from Lake Fork picked me up and we went together to Fredericksburg to Buzzard's get-together. Nita, MaryAnn and I stayed in a motel room together. It was a great weekend. On the way home, Annie & John stopped at a German restaurant near Austin where I met some of their kids. What a great family; John passed away a year ago. Then 2 years ago I met a lady from Temple on a cruise ship, but don't know her name! Now I'm friends with the amazing Vannie. If I've left out anyone , just remember that I'm getting old! *L*

I was supposed to go to the Texas Get-together at Buzzard's...Nita said that was like 5 years ago! Couldn't believe. Judy and I found our local connections; Bbabers was a librarian, I've been on our town's library board and Friend's board. Nita's folks and my folks all lived in Naples, FL and, of course, felt like I've known her for years...guess I have. I've been busy, but have been lurking, thanks for keeping my phone number all these years, Nita. Judy and I decided for the next get-together...we're driving there together! Had a wonderful time yesterday, looking forward to the next one.

Can't wait! We are going to get our a$$es to SA for the Sunday for sure. Will try and make the Saturday but that's still not for sure, depends on when we get out of the LA area.

I'm not so worried about Texas seceding because I have a passport, LOL, but Swine Flu, that's a whole other thing!

Oh, I wish I could make it! I'm actually going to be down in San Antonio in July for my cousin's wedding. First time there since I was a baby.

I called the RV park to reserve a cabin, and they said they only take reservations 2 weeks in advance. So, on Mother's day I'll be calling them back and hoping for the best. I don't mind tent camping, but for this trip I'd rather not have to deal with a tent. I'm crossing my fingers.

Tracey, I'm sorry you won't be here then; but in July let's try to meet up for lunch or dinner if you have time with the wedding.

Sharon, so far there are only 5 confirmed cases here and most involve one family. They have three kids in three different schools here on the northwest side of town. This is the school district that closed down 14 of their schools (which is their entire district and consists of these three suburbs - Schertz, Cibolo and Universal City). I am watching this closely, trust me.

I loooove San Antonio and Mi Tierra has great ambiance....but my grand daughter will be graduating from highschool that weekend....and there's where I'll be!
Besides you can't get from Des Moines to San antonio. Last time I did that trip it took me literally all day!

I'm fine thank goodness. We did have LOTS of rain but fortunately we are ok. More details on the other thread.

We are gutting closer Brenda! Just crossed the CA/AZ border and are tracking a day early!

Okay, gotta ask you, Sharon: spray paint in Amarillo? Good Morning America had a bit I saw on yahoo! about some of their people doing the Route 66 drive and they were in Shamrock and then it showed them spraying painting the buried Cadillacs "GMA".

So, maybe you will be here Saturday night? hope so,,,It's not 104 here, don't think we've even broke 100 yet.
