Enlarging a pattern

Hi, everyone! I just started taking watercolor painting lessons, and I am so excited - but...I am wanting to use free patterns from different web sites. Can someone help me figure out how to make the patterns larger, to fit a sheet of 8"x10" or 11"x14" paper?

I did a google.com search and came up with Microsoft Paint, which I tried, but once I get it enlarged, I can't get it to print out.

Can anyone email me and offer me a solution? Thank you SO MUCH!

Paint is kind of a useless program for most stuff. I have linked to the Irfanview web site below. This is a nice small free program. Be sure to also download and install the plugins.

Open the program, click to open the pattern you wish to print.

Click File, click Print... and now you see your pattern in the small window near the top right of the window. Look just to the left and there are options to enlarge prior to actually printing off your pattern. You may need to play a little to get comfortable but Irfanview is not really a hard program to master and it has many features if you look around.

Well, if you jump the yarn and needle size, you will end up with a bigger sweater, but you will have to make the necessary adjustments for the length, which will also grow. The first sweater I ever knitted had a Fair Isle yoke and although the directions specified sport weight yarn, I knitted it in worsted. I was 5'2"/110 lbs at the time and the sweater ended up fitting my DH who was 5'10"/180! Krissie, the information given on that page strikes me as a bit odd. Number 40 thread is very fine and a number 7 hook is on the large side. I would use something like #10 thread with a #7 hook. Maybe this is not U.S. written, and I don't know if the numbers would be different for a different country. Hook sizes are different for UK, for instance. But if we are to assume that this is written with U.S. measurements, all you have to do is substitute #10 (bedspread cotton) for the thread and it will come out much larger.
