Flytouch 3 from China Grabber

Always wanted a tablet to play with, see how they stack up to laptops/netbooks...so I happened upon ChinaGrabber thru another computer help forum and thought for less than $200 I could get a knockoff label 10" tablet with decent specs rather than dishing out $500-$800 for a big brand name like Apple

It of course does not have a Windows OS but instead has the Android Froyo 2.2...The user manual that came with the tablet was for the 2.1 OS and almost totally useless . They were just in the process of changing the booklets to the new but there was a hold because of the Chinese New Year..the units sold now should have the proper book or it can easily be found online..There are also a couple of Flytouch help forums to help newbies like me find their way around the new OS..it comes with two USB ports which also gives one the option of using a mouse with it and there is also an optional keyboard enclosed in a leather case with also holds the tablet for $23..Good investment..It easily hooks up to any wifi network or also comes equipped with a Ethernet cable slot..the wifi antenna is not all that great and does not work well at longer distances..but is super for around the house or at a local coffee shop or airport etc..The touch screen works well but is probably not as responsive or a quick loading as the higher priced units, but what the heck do you expect for $200....If you are sitting on the fence and wondering what to do, should I or shouldnt I and have a need for a tablet and dont want to spend big bucks, go for it..So far, its been great.

I am so glad to see you did give us a review of your flytouch3. You know I am into the Android tablets and am constantly at chinagrabber looking at the various options. The prices are very reasonable for what these Android tablets can do.
I am glad you are enjoying it. I think I am going to try to wait for the Android Honeycomb OS ones to come out, but I doubt I will be able to afford them for a while. That is why the Froyo 2.2 ones are dropping in price, since some of the Honeycomb's are now available.

I just spent 300 bucks for a new color laser printer so I don't think my budget is available right now.

The blooms of Perle d'Or have proved to be a lot more durable in hot weather than those of my Arethusia, which were thoroughly cooked by noon before the plant was moved to Louis XIV's sun-protected neighborhood. Good thing the two roses look good together. Both apricots are healthy and floriferous, with pleasing growth habits. I'd probably have a hard time choosing between them in a milder summer climate. I like Gruss an Aachen, but if space limitations forced me to make a choice, I'd hold out for Pink GaA (AKA Irene Watts). The color is better, IMHO. Marie d'Orleans is a good, generous rose, and quite the little attention grabber. It's the only rose in my collection that my non-gardening dh can identify by name. After 3 years of hearing him laughingly refer to it "that sea urchin rose" or "the bed head rose," it was vaguely unsettling to hear him call it "Marie d'Orleans" last year.

I would suggest that to some degree you get what you pay for and good hardware is expensive. I would also suggest being suspicious of any deal that appears too good to be true or buying from companies you never heard of. Those companies may not even be in business 6 months from now and in the case of China, where the discussion is not about the latest, greatest device but who makes the best knock-off of the latest, greatest device, to be even more careful. You might even want to think about how you feel about intellectual property theft. These no-name companies are often relying on others to do the R&D and simply copying the design. Frankly, some do it better than others. While you're reading reviews, you might want to make sure you are including some professional reviews from leading publications or reputable web sites. More than a few folks "rationalize" the purchase of mediocre equipment by downplaying deficiencies as a trade-off for a lower price. The simple fact is a lower resolution screen is a lower resolution screen and that cheap device with inferior hardware will never be an iPad or Xoom. Maybe off a little but kind of like saying a Chevy is just as good as a Cadillac and justifying it by thinking you never really wanted leather seats anyway.

It would depend on what tablet you were going to purchase for some of the info and what size it would be. I would not do it with a 7" or 10" tablet just too small in my opinion. but yes you can add a keyboard and mouse to a tablet or at least many of them, you would have to make certain they have multiple usb ports for that. The keyboards on the tablets can be awkward to use for any extended time. I do not think that netbooks will go away, they have newer models coming out with more stout processors in them and many now run windows 7. I have an acer netbook one of the first ones so mine is a little smaller than the ones out now, I love it but would not want it for my only computer, I use a usb mouse with it because I hate touchpads. Netbooks have no cd or dvd drive and neither do tablets so you have to use usb flash drives or have an external usb cd or dvd drive to plug in should you need to. Printing can be done if you have a printer that is networked, plugged into your router or you can use it by usb plugged into the tablet or netbook. If you have to install software for the printer that would have to be done either by download from their website or by usb flash drive or as I said a usb stand alone cd or dvd drive. I have not installed printer software on a netbook or tablet so can not help with that, however I just got a new laser printer delivered today and I hope to network it so that my netbook will be able to use it and since I have a wireless router I should be able to use any wifi enabled device that can print to print to it. If you really do not do much heavy work at all then you could probably get by. Again it would depend on the tablet. Do you have one in mind? Many of the bigger ones will cost you more than a laptop or netbook. Prices will of course drop on them since so many are now hitting the market. I love the looks of motorola zoom, and like the looks of the blackberry playbook also nice is the Acer Iconia, I prefer an Android based tablet myself, preferably one that is running the newest Android Honeycomb OS. but again I sure would not want a 7" or 10" main use tablet. I have the pandigital novel 7" tablet which I love and to me it is perfect for ereader use and I can do most of what I want to do on it including email, surf, music, pictures and video but would never think of using it for a primary device. Well ours is without question made of 304 stainless. But honestly I don't really see a problem using 430 SS either, depends on the way it was built as in some cases the 430 is better because it holds a weld better and can bend to certain specifications better without cracking. A range made of 430SS inside your house is not going to rust anyway, that is pure nonsense. I DO however think that 430 SS could have more adverse reactions to acidic type foods such as say Tomato Sauce or Lemon juice Vs 304. maybe if you sat it in a corner of an abandoned house for 30 years maybe, but if you use it everyday in a house with AC it is not going to rust, but it very well could have more staining with acidic foods. I think that 304 stainless is critical on a BBQ grill, but not so much on an indoor stove. But I am still glad mine is made of 304 Stainless anyway. But there are many things made of 400 series stainless that work just fine, never rust, one I can think of is most "Food Slicers, Deli meat slicers etc" are made of 400 series stainless. Car exhaust pipes are usually made of 409 stainless because of the better welding and heat resistance. I once had the pleasure of meeting an old guy out in California, he lived in the middle of no where on many acres of land and when I met him I drove through the classic old gate with elk antlers on top and his house was built in around the 1830's, was an old adobe that was built by a Mexican General when California was actually Mexico. House still stands today with the same tile roof, just one addition was added on about 100 years ago but other than that was all original, No AC. He had as his stove a old wood stove that was thickly enameled color of like a seafoam blue/green and all the corners and edges were all Stainless Steel. Had to be a 400 series stainless because I don't think the 300 series was even in use yet. That stove looked like it brand spanking new and at the time I saw it was about 90+ years old. Not a speck of rust on it, of course it was thick as hell but still the surface was still like new. I actually find products "Made in USA" about 75% of the time to be pure crap in every way. I bet 95% of the world views items "made in USA" exactly the way people like Deeageaux does about China. In general about every product I see with "Made in Germany" tag on it is probably about the only one I can generally count on being very well made, I can usually count on a high price for that item also. Most of the working parts in the NXR come from every place except China, it is basically just "Assembled" in China and who better to assemble than those that have been assembling things for decades. Also it is probably the larger brand name companies that are forcing retailers not to carry a quality product that cost far less, that happens all the time in every category of product.

genes I was just reading the specs, what is the largest size memory card you can use does it say? My PDN can take up to 32gig SD.

and is the battery replaceable?

is Android market readily available out of the box? any problems using it?

how is youtube video? it says it comes with the ability to view them? I know there is an app for that but nice if it is pre installed.

which ereader apps did it come preloaded with?
and is there an option of homescreens? which does it come standard with?

Yes the "toys" are starting to build up around here too..I am currently running a 17" Acer Laptop (7720) Win Vista Ultra, 15.5 Acer laptop (5517)Win 7, HP Mini 220 netbook(daughter gave me, spilled liquid on keyboard) Pinguy Linux, and a real oldie IBM ThinkPad 390 running Puppy Linux. Just gave a Toshiba Satellite A70 (Win XP) to my SIL. 10.1" Flytouch 3 Tablet, and my Kindle...Granddaughter has two laptop both of which do not work....her old one which she doesnt want anymore is a Tosh Satellite 1400 with XP..(she lent it to her mom and her mom cant find the a/c adapter so I am waiting on one I ordered)I have the restore disks that came with it..I will either reload the xpHome or maybe try another Linux distro...Whenever she remembers to bring in her newer laptop, I will do a serious clean on it an maybe even do a complete restore ( have the restore cds for that one, which I made) she looses things so if she wants it for later, she has me keep stuff for her

Now when I order books from the book store it asks if I want them sent to the kindle or the tablet..I assume when I downloaded the app, it added the tablet to the whispernet download

One of the reasons the iPad costs so much is that Apple had to pay a bunch of engineers to design the thing. It's lot cheaper to steal intellectual property than pay for the R&D.

It costs Apple $325 to build the iPad 2. I can't help but wonder if a $200 Chinese copy might use some inferior components.

The unfortunate reality is that we all pay the price of intellectual property theft. While it may not be as obvious as, say, retail theft there's a cost none the less that's passed on to consumers.

so then in your reality every single tablet out there is a theft from apple? then every single pc would be a theft from IBM? these tablets are nothing like an ipad they do not have anything to do with apple and their oh so proprietary parts. What about the xoom or the acer or one of the other NAME brands guess that would hold for them too they are thieves?
You do realize most all of the electronics are made in China even the ones that have the name brand stickers on them.

If you go on that principle I guess we should never have had another car manufacturer ??? the original would be it because surely anyone else that choose to go into the manufacturing of them would be stealing??

It is called enterprise it is what business is all about.
If they were stealing anything intellectual property or other wise you can bet your bottom dollar that Apple would have them in court already.

technology progress is a fast paced industry it is natural that many companies, known or not, will be investing in the latest and greatest, that is what the business world is all about. Just because something is similar certainly does not mean it is stolen. They are being legally manufactured, with legal parts and legally sold, legal sales!

There is nothing wrong with being a savvy shopper and going for a good buy. Everyone has that right. And should certainly never be made to feel that they are guilty of theft! or belittled for it.

Hey the man has got his beliefs and that is ok...but, regardless of what anyone thinks, if I see what I believe is a good deal out there, I am not one to weigh the pros and cons of moral business ethics, I go for the deal

I didn't say anything about about EVERY table being stolen and if you're interested you might want to read about the steps (and expense) Compaq took to legally reverse engineer an IBM PC so that they could sell an IBM compatible computer.

It's probably just a strange coincidence that the Flytouch looks like an iPad right down to the single button on the front. That might leave one to wonder why other legitimate Android devices have four buttons but lets not sweat the details as long as the price is right. In terms of innovation, they did include a RJ-45 port and you can buy an external GPS antenna! The box has a sporty design too!

Nothing wrong with being a savvy shopper. I just ran into a guy who told me he can get me a really good deal on a new TV. He says he saw it fall of the back of a truck. He tried yelling to the driver but the truck just kept going...

Paraphrasing and illustrating from the third paragraph of page 36 of Econ 101: If someone buys a computer from HP that was made in China, assume that $.20 goes to the foreign land and $.80 stays in the US. Buy it from a Chinese firm that is in the US or direct from China, $.80 goes to China and $.20 stays in the US.
