Are you still working on this? I have questions about more than the fridge. This is an awkward layout and there is enough space there that I think you must have better options. Have you looked at moving the dining room entry to the right? Shifting an opening is not a huge ordeal, even if that is a load bearing wall (not sure if it is but someone mentioned the possibility in an earlier post). I'll try to post something mocked up best my crude skills allow here. As I have it, I think that would be a 36" fridge and there is a pinch point. I'm not sure of the depth there, but with a counter depth, an 18" DW or some other tweaks with proper measurements, I think you could improve the function of the space. On the dining room side, any crown would remain or be replaced above the opening and a good contractor should be able to adjust the baseboards. Keep working the plan until you get the kinks out. I lived with two horrible kitchens (we're talking 2 burners and they aren't flat or heat that well, dying ovens, DW tiled in and praying it wouldn't die -- even though it was so loud I hated to run it) for ten years between the two of them until I was able to do my kitchen. I learned a lot along the way and had time to explore outside the box ideas, come back and go off in different directions. All that exploration really paid off in the end, and I plan to use it long enough to make up for any delays. Anyway, here's one rough idea in case you hadn't though of it.

After MUCH research , I bought a Kenmore French Door w/ice & water in the door. I previously had 3 different side by sides. My last SBS was two years old and ruined by Hurricane Ike. I also had a separate freezer in the garage that wasn't replaced. I discovered that I didn't need a separate freezer due to the extra freezer space gained with the French Door model. The French Door style accommodates larger items that will not fit in the narrow side by side freezer. I love the french door style. The ice and water feature on the outside causes the loss of some fridge space, but I was willing to make that sacrifice. My first SBS was one of the very first made by Sears, a Coldspot. It lasted 26 years or so. I hope this Kenmore will last as long. (I know I won't last that long)

We have had the frigidaire in two houses and been very pleased. Installed it in a reno in 2012 and like it a lot -- liked the large capacity in a counter depth, liked the fact that we could get it without a water dispenser/ice maker in the door. It felt large and worked perfectly fine the whole two years we lived there. We had to move unexpected after two years across the country and did another reno, and installed it again because it had worked well before and why risk something new when you know you liked the first one?

To the skeptics who don't quite think I am telling the whole story or who think I am unduly biased: I came home from being out of town to a 50+ degree fridge with the entire freezer compartment thawed. I did some basic research and found realms of online stories about LG's well-known compressor problems and subsequent settlement. I knew it had to be the compressor. I called LG and they put me through self-diagnostic tests before agreeing to send out a repairman. Then, of course, it was a wait to even be able to schedule an appointment. The repairman came out, took one look, and declared this a compressor problem. He installed one of the new compressors and I patiently waited for the fridge to properly cool down. Within days it became apparent that the fridge still couldn't maintain an appropriate or stable temperature (I was using a fridge thermometer to monitor temps). I called back and again had to wait to get another appointment. The repairman came back and injected refrigerant telling me that sometimes when a new compressor is installed there is a small kink or plug in a hose that needs to be corrected/unblocked. I again waited a bit, giving the fridge time to reach proper temps in both compartments. It never happened. Freezer above 32, fridge in the 50 to 54 degree range. Much more back and forth with LG! I bought a new fridge. (And, the fridge prior to this LG had also been a french door LG. We finally replaced that one because we were sick of the monthly process where we had to disassemble the thing and chip out the 1" thick layer of ice that had developed near the freezer section due to a drainage line that wouldn't remain clear without us manually taking care of it. When we went fridge shopping that time, we told ourselves we wouldn't buy another LG. But, we were dazzled by all of the fancy features on the LG line and fell for them again. I wasn't going to do that this time around.)
