I am always amazed when people say they have loads of photos or music that they do not want to lose or cannot replace yet have never backed up these valuables. If your hard drive fails tomorrow you have a very real problem. You are not alone in this and I am not trying to be mean spirited but if you fail to look after you and your possessions then who will? For less than $50 you can buy a name brand DVD-RW and for under $20 you can buy 100 blank DVDs. You can buy a lesser amount of blanks of course, that is a choice you can make. The DVD will come with software you install to use it. Or if you already have blank CDs you could use those in the DVD burner. If you back some of that stuff up and remove it from this computer it may well run faster because you will have more free space on the hard drive for the swap file to work better. Does your activity light come on frequently and stay on for long periods? If so this is an indication the swap file is have a problem. Then if you really want to get carried away you can visit Big Lots where they have (or did recently in the Buffalo, NY store) CD or DVD labels and the software to create your own labels for $10 or $11. Another option would be to install this hard drive as a slave in the new computer you intend to buy. You would need to check that there are compatible data connections in the new computer. Older hard drives are IDE or ATA but the newer and faster technology is SATA.

yea I would not have used that download either good you canceled it. What happens sometimes is that firefox for some reason does not fully close, so on the one that says it can't continue till you close it, do a control alt delete to bring up task manager, in the list of processes look for firefox and select to end or terminate process. I have never seen a firefox add-on called that, I did a search on firefox extensions page and nothing with realplayer in the name even came up. That is a new one on me. You can always try getting Real Player again should you find you need it. Or you can get something like Real Alternative which will play Real stuff and is light and easy. After you have been surfing the web for awhile, a lot of temporary files gets stored on disk. Some of these are used to quickly display the contents of re-occuring frames on a page. You can clean up your hard drives with a built-in utiltiy in Windows. Double-click "My Computer" (or single click depending on your settings). My Computer> right click on a hard drive> properties> Disk Cleanup. The system will compute the amount of space used by temporary files and display the results. Highlight (click on the selection box) the files you'd like to remove, then click "ok" or "apply" whichever is applicable. The two biggest space hogs are: Temporary Internet Files Temporary Files These can be safely removed, however, there may be minor information 'remembered' in these files. The next time an old site is re-visited, it may take a little more time to load the page because it is starting with a clean slate. As you brouse, new files get written to the temporary space on your disk. Another file that can grow to large size is the browsing "history" file. This is the file where the URLs( addresses of sites visited) are kept. There are user settings to control the size of this file. To access in Win XP: Control Panel > Internet Options > General Tab > On the general tab, find "Browsing History" and click on "settings". Near the bottom of the "settings" panel, find "no. of days" to keep history. A common setting is 20 days. Set this to whatever you like. Addresses (URLs) older than the setting will be dropped off the list.
