FireFox 3.5.2 problems

I have never had a problem with any of the Firefox updates until this one. Pages load ok and general use seems to be ok, but when I have to upload to my web space (Which is quite often) is when I have problems. Thought at first it might be on my hosts side, but if I use IE things are fine. They are fine with Google Chrome too. What happens is when I go to upload via the built in console in my space everything locks up for awhile and it takes forever to transfer files from my computer to my space. I have used this console for years and really like it and really don't want to use a 2nd party FTP.

I have read and tried the suggestion of turning off all add-ons, but that didn't help. Something is being blocked or scanned in the background is what I think, but what? I love FireFox and want it to work again correctly!!

I do have older versions in a folder and would like to dump the new verison. Will the older version install over the new one or do I need to uninstall first? Then what happens to my bookmarks if I uninstall the 3.5.2? I know FireFox needed to do some security changes, but dang I hate when it turns out not to be a "One Size Fits All" change..........sigh

When I have uninstalled firefox before installing a newer version the bookmarks, history, etc. have stayed in the Mozilla folder. To be double safe you can export your bookmarks (bookmarks > organize bookmarks > import and backup) to a file in your My Documents folder before uninstalling. That way you can delete the folder after uninstalling if you need to do so to install an older version.

Thanks I'll do a backup of my bookmarks first just in case. What ever they did to FireFox to fix a security problem just screwed up something else......Gurrrrr

If you look at Firefox Add-ons under Tools, it indicates that particular plug-in is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.2.

I appreciate the information and suggestions. I never had the View Point media player, to my knowledge, but the Add-on was in FF, sure enough, though now disabled. I have been having all kinds of trouble, Spyware Doctor and DoubleAntiVirus installing but giving the message that they failed to initialize...well, I won't bore you with it all. I decided that Ravencajun was right, and I needed help from a specialized forum, so I posted on LandsDown, which I think Zep recommended to someone else here. Today, I discovered that something (not me!) had changed the location for my downloads in FF to "Downloads," though I had it set up to download to the desktop. Ulp! Zep: Googling trojan Hiloti was one of the first things I did after Spyware Doctor discovered it in my computer. SD said you had to pay if you wanted to remove the infected files, so I did, but no matter what I did after that, I couldn't even get it to scan again, and the registration number they emailed me, while it sufficed to register for an account at their site, was consistently refused when I tried to register the software. So far, PCTools has not replied to my emails about SD, but perhaps I haven't given them enough time. Very disappointed. The SD icon in the systray also caused TrendMicro Internet Security to hang and the mouse to freeze, so I removed it from startup, but it came back later. So, thumbs down from me to Spyware Doctor. I hope they return my money!

you will have to do that anyway because they are not supporting version 2. So might as well go ahead and do it. It should be a smooth transition, there are several threads here that I have posted links to some tips and tricks for firefox 3 where you can make it more like version 2 etc so just search for those. some of your add ons or themes may not yet be functional with version 3 is maybe something you may run into.

I wonder if you've cleared your history-cache-cookies lately. I also am curious what version you're running, and how many add-ons you've added to it. If you want to uninstall a program, you typically don't start "deleting" things...unless you want more problems than you had before. Millions of people use Firefox with great success. If you think Firefox is the problem, I predict you'll be just as unhappy with Safari or any other browser. I think you're having a PEBKAC day.
