Anyone know the Pale Moon browser and/or FireFox addon, Scrapbook??

About 2 days ago, I learned of the Pale Moon browser, which is based on what FireFox used to be, and I tried it. I really liked it--for one thing, because FF has been changing so much that some addons become useless and apparently there are more radical changes in view; it lets me use the "red cats" theme I used to be able to have on FF, but can't anymore.

The problem: The add-on called Scrapbook is incompatible with Pale Moon, so I figured I would just have to switch back and forth to use FireFox when I wanted to find something I had saved there. And I had hundreds of things saved. But tonight when I went to do that, I discovered that every single entry had disappeared from Scrapbook. Possibly it is from something I did without knowing, or maybe there is some strange link between Pale Moon and FireFox, because I found that all my saved passwords have also disappeared from FireFox. Yet they are now in Pale Moon, fortunately, but that can't happen with Scrapbook, as it is incompatible with PM.

I had read somewhere in all the explanations that "Sure, you can use both browsers and switch back and forth," so these disappearances are very disconcerting. Does anyone have an idea how I might get my Scrapbook contents back? I have this note stored in my documents folder :

Where bookmarks are stored for Firefox:

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application
Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.xxx Filename:bookmarks.html

and thought of using it, substituting "scrapbook" for "bookmarks," then realized that I have no idea where I would enter such an address to begin with. I checked C:\ in My Computer, but there is no "Documents and Settings" listed under it. Waaaaah!

Any help much appreciated.

I don't use Palemoon but I bet, since it's based on Firefox, it uses the same location to store profiles as does regular Firefox?

Probably the easiest way to locate the profile is about:support -> Show Folder

Or (I think) with the "Run" method: %APPDATA%/mozilla/firefox/profiles

Since I don't use Pale Moon, nor the scrapbook extension, I probably can't help but... what I might do (and maybe you already have):

Start Firefox like this(using Run): firefox -p and see if there's an extra profile listed to try.

In Firefox, go to about:addons -> extensions and make sure Pale Moon didn't disable the scrapbook extension. (If Firefox and Pale Moon is using the same profile, it might have)

Hopefully someone else can be of more help.

As a last resort you could see if a restore point was created when you installed Pale Moon. Not saying you'd want to do that, just an afterthought.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me, Richard. I have been trying your suggestions, but

is -> the same as >? I've been trying various combinations of space, dash, and >, but am not familiar with the combination of a dash and >.

Anyway, I did finally figure out that Pale Moon has not disabled Scrapbook. But all its contents are still missing, no matter what I do. At some point, I also got to Scrapbook in my FF profile, but then nothing inside it led to a solution. The best I could do was to choose the browser to open an .rdf file, which resulted--depending on what I clicked on--in messages:

(1) "This XML file (Huh? I thought it was RDF.) does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below" and some meaningless repetitions of RDF and "urn:scrapbook:root" that took me to a very confusing list of unhelpful things when I clicked on it, and

(2) an extremely long list of items in a blue font, some of which bore a resemblance to things that might have been in Scrapbook, while others did not, all smashed together with no organization and impossible to use. I suppose this was for the same reason mentioned in (1), that there was no style information associated with it.

I am considering that "last resort." I'm tempted to go ahead with sys restore immediately, but as it happens, the only restore point is 9/12, which was well before PM was installed, so to be polite, I will wait to see if anyone on the Pale Moon forum (where I have posted about this problem) offers a solution.

Somehow, I despair of success in this case, and I'll probably have to give up on the lost Scrapbook entries and then decide whether or not all the trouble and confusion are worth sticking with Pale Moon. The way it and Firefox seem to be communicating and changing things in each other behind the scenes might drive me crazy. I've never come across anything like that before.

Any advantage to having an external hard drive?

I just bought an external drive this week and love it. Apart from being able to free up space on C:\, it is good for arranging automatic backups. I have it set to back up all of my documents, music, and pictures 4 days a week at a time when I am not going to be using the computer. Until now, I had been putting these backups on CDs and DVDs, but it is too easy to forget to make those backups, and it is also a nuisance saving and keeping track of the disks I saved them on. I like the way I can just drag things to the icon for the external drive, too. Easier than burning a CD or DVD, and it has the advantage that you can erase things and use that space again, the way you might on a floppy or a zip disk. My external drive is a 500GB Maxtor that I found on sale Mon. at Fry's in San Diego, for only $99.99. (They seem to change the products on sale from day-to-day, so I don't guarantee anyone will find the same thing at the same price another day. DH paid the same there the day before I did, but he only got a 300GB Maxtor external hard drive) Today a friend who has a business servicing other companies' computers told me he considers Western Digital's hard drives to be among the best, so you got a good one. However, I was happy when he also said I had gotten a bargain. Guess this is the time of year to look for bargains in computer stuff! I probably should mention that since my FireFox browser's "Bookmarks" (=Favorites in I.E.) and things I have saved in its "Scrapbook" add-on, or extension, are not located in My Documents and thus do not come under the automatic backing up, I am going to take care to back them up to the external drive manually every few days.

They do appear darker and bolder on the desktop firefox also but not quite as dark as the android firefox. sjerin on my linux there is no options either but under Edit at the top there is Preferences and that is the same as the options, that leads to the firefox settings box and tabs I thought maybe Mac version was the same. You can try to google where are firefox settings on Mac. I think all the various forums that have another side such as conversation and discussions all have that other side with a colored background so it can certainly be done here as well. The very pale green tint that is on the outer edges would be better than white. I have definitely noticed a slower page load especially on my tablet. I have extremely high speed internet here at home.

mama goose that link takes you to a picture of what the page looks like with the Stylish extension - it's not a truly clear representation of what it would look like on your computer. I use Chrome and just added the Stylish extension - back to the old GW morning glories look!! There are now horizontal dividing lines between posts on every thread - a huge help. The type is crisper in the posts, although still greyed out as I'm typing this but that will change when I post the reply. On the main page for each forum the type is larger, darker and there is clearer delineation between the different threads - everything is MUCH easier to read for me. It's still a work-around and does NOT get Houzz off the hook IMO, but at least it's a temporary improvement and I can participate again.

Sorry for the confusing shorthand. It just means something like "do the thing on the left, then do the thing on the right". (so yes, same thing)

So about:addons -> extensions means "Type about:addons into the address bar and hit "Enter". When the page opens, click the "extensions" tab if you're not already on it. Which I'm sure you're already found.

Hopefully someone else here or on the Pale Moon forum can help you find the missing Scrapbook data.

Thanks, Richard. I'm sure that will be useful knowledge for me. Someone answered me on the PM forum this morning, but it looks as if the problem is much more complicated than I had thought. He says that PM and FF have completely separate profiles, so it is hard for him, as well as for me, to figure out what has gone wrong. After breakfast, I'm going to see what I can do to answer the questions he is asking so he can help me.
