Firefox problems

Hi guys ~ Off to a New Year's start with problems & questions, so here goes:

1. I was on Firefox this morning on another (my main) computer & everything was working fine - then I went to check my list of addons because several didn't seem to be working. I was looking at 'popular' got distracted & off the computer. Several hours later I tried to log on to FF and it won't connect from the icon or any other way. So I thought I'd un-install it but it won't let me. It says "FF can't continue until you close it" ~ but it's not connected! I kept trying - no luck - I can't uninstall it because "it" thinks FF is still running when it's not. I'm in a loop now and can't get out. Help.

So - I went to my other computer and.......

I tried to download Firefox on this computer (which only has IE8) and the 2nd or 3rd step in the download said "download Mozilla.Saudi.net.sa" as a part of Firefox and I quit the install. I know it's a mail proxy but I don't remember seeing that on my other computer when I downloaded FF to it last summer. Maybe I'm paronoid but I'm not sure I want the Saudis' reading my emails. So what is that about?

yea I would not have used that download either good you canceled it.
What happens sometimes is that firefox for some reason does not fully close, so on the one that says it can't continue till you close it, do a control alt delete to bring up task manager, in the list of processes look for firefox and select to end or terminate process. Or reboot your pc to fully stop it then you can try again to update it.

are you going to the actual mozilla site for download?

Thanks raven for the affirmation re:Saudi.net.sa ~ just seemed peculiar and yes, I'm a little paranoid.

I should have thought of the task mgr - good call. I think I went to Mozilla but I'll try again with your suggestions and your link. You're a peach.

I have iMac running leopard and Firefox 2.0.0.6. Never had any problem with Tiger or other Firefox versions either. Wondering if maybe you have some incompatibility with your versions. Can you say versions using? Another place to look is free Mac Forum below. I've found good help and fast response times there. Better Mac-specific advice there than here. Also, Safari does work fine. It sounds like your "Add-Ons" dialog box launched on the 'Get Add-Ons' tab. Did you check Extensions or Plug-Ins? That should also be listed on the Sidebar.

YOu should uninstall and reinstall Firefox it sounds like you got a corrupted file some where in your profile. you can keep a copy of your bookmarks.html file if you already had it loaded in, just save it to your desktop then when you re install firefox import that file that you exported out earlier. I am not on 3 right now but normally it is bookmarks, organize bookmarks, file, export and then the same to import. there is a vulnerability in 3.03 but they are already working on it and will probably send out an update today or tomorrow it they have not done it already in the nightlies.

Thanks to your Perserverence and Determination, my Firefox has the moderating abilities once again. Zep, I re-installed Version 6-7 and it is working. This was my version I had on the machine previously. So unfortunately any updates will be ignored for a while. Have a very Merry Christmas and relaxing holidayZep, Ravencajun and other professionals. Well, I tried again and get the same response - to close FF before I can proceed. I checked Task Mgr. and the only thing running is Programs & Features in the Control Panel where I tried to "uninstall" FF so I could re-install again. No luck....Is there a Plan 'B'?

I'm thinking that one of the un-installers might be of help?

Besides Revo (link below), you could try the "Pro" YourUninstaller which you can try for 21 days.

The Pro version of Both have a Force Uninstall but only YourUninstaller has a free trial. (as far as I know)

Check the applications tab too!

In the task manager click the applications tab at the top you might see Firefox listed there, if so right click on the Firefox task and choose end task.

If for some reason you can't get Firefox to stop running or close your next option is to boot to safe mode, open the program files folder and delete the Mozilla folder by right clicking on it and choosing delete.

If you can't stop it with Task Manager, have you just tried to re-boot?

Bring up task manager and look in the processes tab. Firefox didn't close properly. Just end the process. You'll get a warning, just click ok.

Or, as said, just reboot.
