If there are any problems with your computer since you restored to this restore point, you can revert back to your previous settings by going back into the System Restore Utility and selecting the "Undo my last restoration.

Then we can start looking at the other issue..

Yep, did that. I'm now back where I started, before I updated the Java. It's still doing it, whereas it didn't before. BTW, I use a Dell Latitude laptop, XP

Does freecycle site work with IE?

Firefox has an add-on that is extremely helpful to Freecycle moderators. Freeclye will open with IE but doesn't have these features, which is the initial reason I downloaded FF as my browser several months ago.

When I click on any FF shortcut, I get a FF has detected a problem and must shut down. Directly behind it is another window, saying that Windows could not find http://gardenweb.com or whatever site I'm trying to open.
These are both new, as of this morning.

Not a 100% what's going on---- Ideas reinstall firefox.... or try making firefox the default browser see the link for that, then see if the FF short cuts will open.

If I make FF my default browser, will the "e" also be FireFox? I don't want it to, since my work website only works with IE. Currently the e is set to open as my work site.

I re-installed FF 3.05 and my desktop shortcuts all work. (I'm writing this via FF). HOWEVER, my Freecycle moderating abilities still don't function. Obviously it's something to do with Java.
This is the error message I receive:
Initialisation error Error calling method on NPObject! [plugin exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No method found matching name newInstance and arguments [com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.liveconnect.v1.JavaNameSpace, java.lang.Integer]].

Another window also comes up saying that I need Java to run the Freecycle extension properly and it's not installed properly.

I checked my Java now and earlier and it is installed correctly and it's the latest version 6-11. Is there a way of installing an earlier version? I only got this problem this morning since updating Java.

Check in the FF browser first at the top of the browser click Tools, now click options, in there make sure there is a check mark in Enable Java Script and enable Java..

Let us know.

I hate to run an older version of Java as it can be an infection risk but in the link below is a download for an older version 6 update 7 all I could find you could see if the fixes it, but I can't recommend running it.

Have you also posted at yahoo? I want to make sure that is your post and not another user with the same pronlem

I didn't download a previous version...mainly because I couldn't find where. But I did a test on the sun.com site and my java is there and working properly.

Freecycle still says it's not initialized...that same window as before. Everytime I click on the freecycle ads, this shows up each time.

My shortcuts and websites are all working with FF now. Thanks!

The Java thing has me frustrated though...

I know the java is working too but when I get an issue like this I start over uninstall java and reinstall, then run the ATF Cleaner in the link provided here are instructions: Pay attention when you download Java make sure open office is not installed.

1 Download the latest version of Java from:
Click Here
2 Scroll down to where it says " Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11
allows end-users to run Java applications".

3 Click the "Download" button to the right.
4 Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
5 Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
6 Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
7 Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
8 Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 6.0 Update 6
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Then Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your Desktop.

Note: Vista users must use Run As Administrator
Under Main: Select Files to Delete choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords click No at If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I agree with zep I would try clearing the java then reinstall it, using ATF is an excellent idea also, be sure you do the ATF for all browsers you have firefox, Ie etc.

Check your java in control panel, start> controlpanel> java> updates.

I'm at the point where I'm doing the ATF thing for Java, and will also do it for FF and IE as well.

try this and let me know what you see, go to your firefox address bar and type in
about:plugins then hit enter
it should open your firefox plugins info, see if you have a long list of java plug-ins there.

Zep, Mozilla recommended that I download Version 10.
When I went on the Java downloads, the only Version 10 is an update using EE. Would that be okay for me, or can you find me a link to SE?

I wouldn't download any of those, and I can't find 6 update 10, the only one I can find is 6 update 7 in the link below it's the top one on that page it's the only alternative I can see at this point.

Zep, I re-installed Version 6-7 and it is working. This was my version I had on the machine previously. So unfortunately any updates will be ignored for a while.
