Update of Thunderbird 2.---

I have a copy of Thurnderbird 2.0.0.14 on one machine and an older version on another. When I tried to "update" to an identified available 2.0.0.24 form either I get a failure:

"Proxy Server Connection Refused" What does that mean, a rejection at the ISP level? Could it be just my ISP or does everyone have this problem?

The note also warns: "Recommend upgrade ... as soon as possible" and gives a link to Mozilla. Going there the only offer is Thunderbird 3.0.... which I take to be consistent with the "Upgrade" warning... I can not find any access to 2.0.anything on the Mozilla site.

It was stated on this forum in a recent post I made that some people are sticking with Thunderbird 2.0. rather than going to 3.0. Is there a consensus on the best path to follow/practice? I don't want to run an out-of-date Thunderbird (or anything) as updates often included security fixes.
