Comments (19)Spottythecat, the towel bar is Pottery Barn 24" Mercer in chrome. kelwit, I used bullnose in the niche and Schluter for the shower wall edges. If you use the same shower tile I did, then Schluter, bullnose, or even the factory cut sides of the tile are all decent options. I used the factory cut edge for my bench seat and it doesn't really look too different from the bullnose honestly, plus it allowed me to avoid extra grout lines. Here are some closeups of the Schluter trim, niche, and bench for comparison....See MoreHelp me out, small bath colors?
Comments (8)Chrissy, it's not just that the shower isn't tiled, which WOULD be enough since the tile would make it the fiberglass look its worst, it's that creating an accent up there would make people LOOK at those leftover little scraps of walls up there, and why would anyone want to? Accents go where you want people to look (red front door on a house); drawing attention to what's pretty (a very nice fireplace mantle); and, importantly organizing the entire visual picture--that is, just like a painting, a room should encourage your eye move around it gently to take in the whole thing but to inevitably come to rest at a significant, visually central point (that mantle); the details are for other glances, not the first one. Thus, when looking at a house from the street, if the attention-grabbing feature is a glaring, oversized masonry drive leading to a giant white garage door, it's not going to be a charming or good looking property, no matter how much was spent on the parking area. As for accommodating your husband's pleasure in bright colors, is there a place that cannot be seen from the bedroom that could be highlighted with a bright color? Or as suggested, could you paint the walls a rich deep blue, or maybe just tile the tiny bathroom floor? Then carry that color out into a quiet, fairly neutral bedroom with small but definite accents of matching color? Note that in trying to find a mutually pleasing ground between muted and bright, something literally in the middle might work, or might not if it's only a compromise and not what either of you really like. Instead, a generally muted scheme almost everywhere--to please you--accented with a genuinely bright color in small amounts--to please him--might give you both what you need in your environment. The bathroom gives you a chance to have a larger, more important area of bright accent located where it'd be out of sight most of the time, as might the bedroom wall behind your bed if it weren't what you saw every time you glanced or walked in. How would you feel about cobalt blue sheets hidden by a beige duvet almost all the time the lights are on? Maybe you could allow a decorative bolster pillow in cobalt blue embroidered in beige. :)...See MoreCheckerboard tile in small bath, need color for walls?
Comments (2)Lisa, you can create your own mosaic patterns with the daltile mosaic designer: http://daltilemosaic.chameleonpower.com ETA I don't like that floor because it's not really mosaic and it's so obvious where the big tiles meet. Since you don't love it, why put it in? When was your house built? That will help in choosing an appropriate floor pattern....See More- 13 years ago
