Are any of you presently having problems with this?

I have windows XP and awhile ago I started having problems with my Yahoo Home page and my Yahoo email not responding. Still having a problem at times, but it has improved a lot.

Now I am having problems with my Microsoft office not responding. If I try to copy and paste to it, many times nothing happens. Ocassionally it is all right. If more than one window is open it doesn't want to paste. I keep getting a message that it is not resonding. Also if I go to a folder and try to open a microsoft word document, many times it also says it is not responding. It is getting very frustrating. My copy of Microsaft Word is about 12 years old. Could this be the problem. I hate to spend the money on a newer version IF it does the same thing. I read recently that there was a large lawsuit against Microsoft, would that have anything to do with it? Any suggestions?

My gut reaction is that over time computers become slower as, for lack of a better description, get "clogged." It might not be a bad idea to back up critical data and then do a fresh install of the operating system and applications.

You should also make sure that Office is being updated. I want to say that with Office 2000, it needs to be updated manually. You'll also need the original disc to do the updates.

Of course, you should have current anti-virus software running and run malware software on a regular basis.

I do not have Office but have MS Word which is 2002 and works OK on WinXP and my Win7 64bit laptop.

If I copy something from a web page to paste into MS Word before the whole web page is done downloading, then what I copied will not paste into MS Word, me getting the "not responding" to where I have to "end program" and reopen MS Word.
Also if I have too much to paste at one time (pictures and all) it won't paste so I do it in pieces.

Mikie you seem to be partly right. I have Windows 7 and Office 2007 and Wordpad will open my .docx files. After your post I tried opening my older .doc files and you are correct they open as gibberish. While I am alone in the wilderness I still feel more people should save in RTF format to get away from being tied to MS. I have a neighbour looking for work and often he cannot submit a resume as requested in Word format as he has a Mac so he was coming here to submit. I created his resume in RTF and now his Mac Pages program accepts that and so do the companies where he has applied so far.

Is this computer YOUR OWN PERSONAL COMPUTER owned by YOU, or does it belong to your employer? If it belongs to the employer or is connected to the employers network, then your company's IT department may have rules about what CAN and CANNOT be installed on their network and on computers owned by them or used on their network. If this is the case, your should talk to whoever in your building is responsible for computer services and find out if they can assist. It may be that the network doesn't recognize you as someone authorized to install new programs.

Some MS Office Home and Student versions allow you to install them on more than one computer. Others do not. If you have a version that has already been installed on the allowed number of computers you cannot install it on another. Word 2010 isn't that different from 2007. You should get used to it pretty soon. I use both on different computers along with word 97 on another with no problem. Any particular feature of word 2010 you don't like?

In word 2007 when you get your page of labels ready to type in the information click on the 'home tab' and in the section where you pick your font look on the bottom line of the ribbon and to the right of the word 'font' you will see a small square with an arrow pointing down to the right. Click on that square to open the font dialog box. After you set the font and all the attributes you want click on the 'default' button which is on the bottom left of the font dialog box. Hope this does it for you.

Since your having similar problems with your browser and email, I suspect your problem is something other than Word and requires diagnosing by a skilled technician.

Size of your H/D and amount of available space? You need enough available room for swap files and temp files.

When is the last time you did a good system maintenance?

If you feel your version of Word is obsolete you could consider Open Office. You can have both on the system as they do nopt conflict.
